IT may do depending on the profile of the panel you have the rust on, an orbital sander is I believe what you mean Ryan and with the right grade papers will do the job if you can get it onto the surface. The 'mouse' type or the multi tool may also do the job, but to be honest for surface bubbling you'll probably find you can do a nice job with a manual sanding block.

I'm okay at sanding, practice at Duxford on aircraft and doing 'Airfix' kits is handy, it's the spraying that worries me. Maybe I'll just sand and treat the rust and be the first person to have a rat rod C8

Looks to be at least £10 dearer since I bought mine! This seems to be an updated model Vs mine (and for understanding on Amazon rather than eBay)

Modern day after market aerosols, I get mine here, are much improved from how they used to be. I find it fairly easy to get a decent finish now that the colour matching is so good and avoiding runs is easy, the secret is a series of quick light coats rather than drenching the panel which causes the runs. The other secret is flat the primer, then degrease the surface with a tack cloth before spraying the top coat!

Up to you of course Ryan, but I think I'd find that set up too cumbersome and heavy for the delicate work you have with surface rust. A finger sander is much lighter to work with than that attachment will be on your angle grinder!! Just saying

I play with blades upto 2 metres on a track saw, angle grinders upto 12 inches, ring saws and dragon saws that can cut upto a foot deep by hand, concrete cutting chainsaws... don't even get me started. I think I've got it covered on the strength front. Just not sure I can be that delicate with a finger sander. I'm more used to hold it for dear life than be delicate......

Yes I have no doubt you far exceed the strength requirement, it is more the precision of control to ensure you don't make matters worse that I was getting at. That attachment will have its tip a fair distance from your controlling hand meaning a greater potential for bouncing on the work when it catches a jagged piece of rust. I'd just advise having a practice on a piece of scrap metal to get a feel for it.

Further to my attempts to cure my intermittent misfire at tickover under load as discussed here, I'm sorry to say the issue has started again and if anything is a bit worse. In addition to happening when idling, with say the A/C on, it has now started happening when you go back on the throttle after having the car in overun, down a hill for example, which is getting annoying. So I thought I'd have a general look and read the codes if there are any. I got out my code reader and set it up to reveal three codes:

So having replaced the plugs a couple of months ago I am going to check number one thoroughly and the identified sensor connectors as a start and see what happens!!

My MAF cleaner arrived today so I have cleaned the MAF and gone through the idle learning routine again. On the face of it, it feels improved but I'll leave it for judgement until I have driven a decent route.

I have ordered a new PCV valve simply as a matter of routine maintenance as I suspect the car still has the original and with 138k now completed, I feel it's reasonable to replace that as a component which can have an effect on idling! It is very tricky to access so I can't say it will be an easy job although it should be a straightforward one!

The PCV valve is on the way from Japan but in the meantime I decided to eliminate the other possible contributers to the problem and ordered the parts shown. With F1 and Footy today they will go on in the morning and ready for the off to Germany on Monday!
