Alloys very rarely stick to hubs on cars. I don't think you need to worry about that at all, especially as the alloy is coated and not in contact directly with the iron hub.

Thanks elma that's reasuring . have the car booked in at Pleiades for 10am Friday 16 Dec for a health check and oil and filter change is there anything that may have been neglected on a mk2 c5 anyone? Other than oil, filters, brakes. Belts?

I have alloys on my C5, and they were initially quite attached to the hubs. Some gentle persuasion overcame this. I wire brushed the hubs and rims, and now there is a smear of copper slip grease on the facing surfaces and the threads of the wheel bolts. When I had to have one wheel off to fix a puncture (actually a slight corrosion on the beading, allowing air to pass between the rim and tyre) it just fell away easily.

That really surprises me, I've only ever heard of it happening on HGVs.

They did not require much effort to get them loose (just a firm kick to the top of the wheel with the bolts undone), but they did need that effort. They should not require that effort again.

I suppose with all the salt added to our roads doesn't help much either. In other countries they just use grit and no salt. Then there must be that alloy against steel problem that xantia rear arms suffer which is one of the reasons I asked the question in the first place. I've never had a car with alloy wheels mainly because I prefer steel wheels they are in many cases much lighter and easier to lift. I even bought new steels for my xantia from Citroen. It is hard to believe that in only 48 hours my xantia will be parked up and stripped down bit by bit after 14 good years of service. I still remember how heart broken my Father was when he drove his GSA estate to the scrap yard.we cut all the suspension lines so that no one else could resurrect her. He spent two weeks every evening in his garage putting in new piston rings and the rings Citroen supplied were slightly to big once the car was tow started she drove fine but she wouldn't turn over on the starter because the new rings were to tight in the cylinders. He stripped her down twice in this two weeks and I really felt for him as i was there learning all i could from him. Now under different circumstances i to have to move on to another car. I'll never understand my mates wife who says it just a box on wheels that takes you from a to b. Some people just aint materialistic I suppose. But then she did have a ford fiesta that had to be replaced because the bulkhead in her brand new car was found to be rotten from the car being stored outside at the docks exposed to salty sea air.well that was Fords excuse anyway box on wheels or not I'd have demanded a refund and bought a nice little Citroen instead. A proper car. I'm keeping a number plate to join the plates on the wall in my shed that's all I want from one of the best if not very best cars I have ever owned The Citroen Xantia Estate.a good hardly worn set of seats anyone?

I have to say that alloy wheels sticking to hubs is not uncommon in my experience. If you take the wheels off regularly, for whatever reason, then they will usually come off easily but if they only come off once a year then there's a fair chance they'll be a bugger.

That's always been my experience...

It helps to smear a bit of copper grease around I find...

I would suggest following the BSi reset routine while doing the battery swap, so as not to introduce any new issues;

No it's fine to change Nigel as is when replacing with the same power - on the X7 there is a section in Diagbox where you can change the battery's Capacity.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Thanks Steve. That's a relief I entered the wrong code on my xantia radio and it locked me out for good. It won't reset either.

Yes, I can confirm that's the case with my dead 207... The wireless is about the only thing that works properly in it despite many battery disconnects and BSI resets :lol:
