Re: DIY with function over finesse!!
I need some advice on tape that will survive engine heat/vibrations. In other posts I've mentioned that I've had an issue with an air pipe 'popping off'. Is there a tape out there that would work? And no a jubilee clip wouldn't work

I tend to use ally tape for that sort of job Ryan, this is an example of what I mean:

Re: DIY with function over finesse!!
Thanks Mick, just ordered a roll. I think that will be cheaper than a new air pipe. I think the original pipe has shrunk over the years. Another tick off the list before my Lexia turns up

Re: DIY with function over finesse!!
As an extra aid I tend to overlap the tape a fairway along the pipe from the split and then use cable ties to fasten to the outlet rather than jubilees which can cut into the tape and render it useless!! Good luck

Re: DIY with function over finesse!!
It's arrived, taped it up, well my boy did. and then I realized...I use this stuff everyday!! We call it silver tape and we get rolls and rolls of it to help stick plastic sheeting to the wall. Oh well £3.95 for a lesson learnt is cheap

Yes, believe it is used for "vapour barrier" sheet joints. I've got it from local builders merchant in the past. It's useful stuff though don't think I have used it in an engine bay application as yet! Have seen HubNut do so very often

HubNut can use what he likes. I feel if Mick has suggested something I will give it ago as I've met him and also a few other members. Nothing better than a recommendation from someone you've met. Just waiting for Easydiagnostics to get stock in to find out what the real problems are, should be interesting

If Easy Diagnostics haven't got the Lexia back in stock next time we have a get together in your area I will bring my setup over. It does work, but I am not that knowledgeable about using it.Rp0thejester wrote: 22 Jul 2023, 21:23 HubNut can use what he likes. Re: Citrojim's AX, Saxo, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
When you (or Mick) use the shredders please make sure to use a suitable oil to lubricate the cutting heads. It requires a lot of force to shred a few pages (try tearing 10 sheets of paper, and you will see what I mean). DON'T use WD40, as it will catch fire after 30 minutes of shredding! The correct oil is vegetable based.
I used to repair/replace Fellowes shredders when I worked for a previous service provider. We recommended oiling a sheet of paper (going across the paper several times as you go from top to bottom) and then shredding it, as this will help to lubricate the full width of the cutting heads. Some of the heavy duty shredders have an auto lubrication function built in.
If they are USA manufactured reduce the number of pages to shred (at a time) by 10%. USA paper is typically that much 'lighter', so more USA sheets can be shredded at a time compared to UK paper.

Good, sound advice James... And I've seen what happens if WD-40 is used...Hell Razor5543 wrote: 29 Aug 2023, 17:58 When you (or Mick) use the shredders please make sure to use a suitable oil to lubricate the cutting heads. I was involved in the repair and maintenance of shredders for most of my career
I've also witnessed a few ties and ID lanyards being accidentally shredded

Re: Citrojim's AX, Saxo, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
I had to go fix a shredder that was running hot. The client had only had it for a couple of months, so were not happy about this (it was, obviously, a warranty repair). When I tested it I found nothing wrong with it, but I was told that it needed to be used for an hour or so for it to get hot. I asked if they were lubricating it according to the user guide. They were surprised that it needed lubricating. I was not surprised to find the supplied oil had not been opened. I was, however, surprised that the client did not know of the need for lubrication, as they were a specialist supplier to the motor racing industry of high temperature oil!CitroJim wrote: 29 Aug 2023, 18:08Good, sound advice James... I've also witnessed a few ties and ID lanyards being accidentally shreddedI found it funny but the wearers of said items didn't... And nor did I when I had to fix the damage!

Re: Citrojim's AX, Saxo, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
Thanks James, I always use proper shredding oil before any batch of shredding. My method is to draw a '5 bar gate' pattern on an A4 sheet first and run it through before the batch shredding begins. I have already left a bottle with Jim so we hope to have a 3 barrel shredding party in the near future once all the new bearing bushes are installed!Hell Razor5543 wrote: 29 Aug 2023, 17:58 When you (or Mick) use the shredders please make sure to use a suitable oil to lubricate the cutting heads.
