I finally got 'round to watching Waldorf and Statler here, talking about cars and farms
I like Claxxon's comment about farming, whereby a farmer who has spent a lifetime in farming may only have 'done' 60 harvests and that's a bigger part of their life's work, whereas if you come across a dentist who's only done 60 dental procedures, or a brain surgeon who's only done 60 brain surgeries, you might want to let them get a bit more experienced before they have a look at you
As for peak car - I reckon late 90s to early 2000s. Safety related technology was coming in, but it didn't rule the car. You could still have a great driving experience and get out of your car feeling you'd achieved something, whereas today....... not so much. I drive my MX5 or the SL and it is a genuinely good experience, whereas I drive my Sportage and it's just a method of getting from 'A' to 'B'. It has all the emotional involvement of a piece of pre-packed cod sitting on a supermarket shelf. I appreciate that there are many people who have no desire for emotional involvement in motoring - they either just want a competent car that takes all the skill and effort away from them........ or perhaps they need a competent car that takes all the skill and effort away from them
