Don't pay £45 quid for just a key - you can get a complete set of bolts and a key for that if you look about. There are other brands too, but don't buy anything too cheap, as you could also loose your wheels that way too!

OK sometimes it's a faff putting them back in the spare wheel, so are usually kept in the glovebox too. It looks like this:
Actually, the locking key looks more like the one in this picture:
Check the bolt in the picture - there should be one locking bolt like this on each wheel and the other 3 bolts are standard ones. If all 4 are standard, then they have likely been replaced with standard ones by the previous owner. Whether you want them or not depends on how much somebody fancies your wheels Nigel

Previous owner probably had sense and BINNED the awfull stupid things! Who nicks alloys these days... but Ive had two now where stupid tyre fitters over tighten them and then bugger them up completely and then they simply do not come off!!GiveMeABreak wrote:OK sometimes it's a faff putting them back in the spare wheel, so are usually kept in the glovebox too. I'm not a fan either, theres tools to take them out fairly easily which anyone really after wheels will just buy. More hassle than they are worth in my opinion.

A lot of amateur fitters don't torque them up at all yet alone to the right setting. I just get my tyres fitted at ATS, but I buy them elsewhere. I always go to the same place and they always torque them up properly.

You won't be surprised to know that I don't. At least on the estate version they stayed with the MK1 rear. Pity about the front treatment though - it's still there.GiveMeABreak wrote:That's also one of the design features I really like toodemag wrote:I know this may sound odd but I like the design of the rear lights across the boot.
You know what it really reminds me of? It's like when your gran gets a pair of Dame Edna Everage glasses and wears them thinking that they make her look younger and more in style. Completely oblivious to how awful she really looks.
So, no matter how much better dynamically and technically the "face lift" was I could never bear to own one and hung on for an X7.

Nigel - If you're desperate for a set of four security wheel bolts for your new car, I've got my old set (including key) you can have BUT.... they're from my C5 X7 so I don't know for sure if they're compatible. If they fit and you want them, you can have them for the cost of postage. As has been said many times before though, they're actually a bit of a pain as soon enough someone mangles them at a tyre place, then they're - all of a sudden - more trouble than they're worth !!

C5 Mk1, Mk2 and X7 all use the same style bolt. The only variation is whether the head size is 17mm or 19mm.

I didn't notice one to be honest but it does have a full size spare wheel.
how hard can it be to wire an up down switch into the boot anyway?
I could probably retrofit one from a car at a scrappy.
or just go round the front and press the down button.
what amazes me is that it takes time for the heating fan to respond
to selection controls but the suspension reacts very quickly indeed.
almost instantly. I love the remote folding mirrors to.
You can override with the manual buttons though.

Three of my wheels have 19s and one 17s. Must do something about that one day - like 3 19s and a 17 on each wheel perhapsPaul-R wrote:C5 Mk1, Mk2 and X7 all use the same style bolt. The only variation is whether the head size is 17mm or 19mm.

Re: your views please on Mk1 C5 2.0 Hdi automatics please?
Thanks for that info but I guess it might be better to stick with the standard bolts
for the time being Thank you.
My more immediate concern is if the alloy wheels have become stuck to the hubs
do you use lithium grease to prevent this happening?
and secondly how are people getting on with the rain sensors
are they good or another useless gimmick?
I'm not to keen on not having control of the cars functions
I hope I can override the auto lights/wipers or whatever it has?
regards.
Nigel.

Lights - if you want them on auto switch to auto on the lighting stalk, otherwise manual control is always available.
Rain sensors - always enabled, but again controllable from he wiper switch - auto for auto or manual for manual. Useful? Yes, especially if you hate having wipers working unnecessarily.
Alloys getting stuck to the hubs? Don't know what made you think of that - never heard of that one before - besides now you have a C5, you'll probably be having plenty of opportunities to take the wheels off and on when your changing your tyres - which you might find yourself doing a little more often now.
