It's weird. Showed as £22,298 this morning, then dropped back this afternoon to what it was a few days ago £21,847...... and still showing as reserved.

It changed status around 11am so I jumped on it.

...and it isn't.

Got a call from them, they say it's gone and are refunding the deposit. Surprised I was able to reserve it.

I notice now the car is back up on the Stellantis site able to reserve. What is going on here?

  • Data collection?
  • Interest survey?
  • Price setting enquiries?
  • Trying to use up advertising allowance/budget?
Or
  • Just playing about!
Your guess is as good as mine!

It's hard to say for certain. Things are a bit hit and miss and nothing seems clear. Like I was told on Monday the car is still available even though the site said it was reserved.... not sure what to think of this. But then when I've been told it's not available it pops back up on the stellantis website available to reserve. Does it now ultimately go back on autotrader too in due course?

When the guy called me back to refund deposit we ended up chatting for 37 mins. They have a shine version, 74 plate 2 miles on for £22,500.

I asked for the 10th digit of the VIN, its an N, so build date 2022. To be honest I'm not too keen on a 74 plate with a 2 year old unused battery.

Maybe it's engagement farming? I.e. the car you want has gone/ nearly gone but feel free to consider this inferior higher priced example instead?

Frustrating. The “Plus” one is on the Stellantis site @ £21,847, reg ending JJM. Same as mine I think, which has a “P” at digit 10, so 2023. What a carry on for you.

Hell probably all me back later this afternoon with a deal for the shine. I know how to respond.

There must be a reason why a car has not sold within 3 years of being built, possibly nobody wants it. If that is the case and you went for it, when you come to replace it you might get very little for it. Some parts expire on age such as tyres can perish, especially if not used so something to check. Oil might drain down over 3 years so engine wear might happen on starting. You have already mentioned batteries.

I just think they got the pricing all wrong so held off registering them and now they are at more realistic levels. The issue is they are now old cars, whatever the reg says.

I think the discontinued 1.6 petrol was the sweet spot, that went and then I think there was something like a £8k gap between the 1.2's and the hybrids which nobody is ever gonna get back through running costs. Also many reviewers said the 1.2 is fine for power so there want any demand for anything more. There's only a few out there who would realise the 1.2 wet belt gets a bad press.

I did say battery because thats the biggie but like you say there are loads of other things too. Even 2023 build date isnt ideal for a car registered on the last day of Feb 2025 but 2022 is a no go.

YorkCX5 - Did you ever establish for sure if your car had the £195 VED or the £620?

Certain that it was under the £40k, certain as I can be at least, I've asked the dealership for the paperwork - Stellantis Walton-on-Thames, they've been excellent throughout. Will confirm or otherwise in due course. Your dealership should be able to tell you if you have one in mind.

Mine doesn't appear any the worse for having sauntered its way over from Chengdu, apart from a bit of rust on the wheel hubs which I think is pretty normal. Maybe time will tell but I'm certainly enjoying not paying for petrol for most of my driving; I fully expect to claw back any premium over the 1.2's price

You can do a car tax check on the gov site to see if it is taxed but then if you have the V5C certificate number you can then see the tax rates for the car.

I also noticed that cars which were £0 such as our Cactus will now be £20 from this year https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... l-2025.pdf

The DS9 has been sold pending collection. 3 came up recently on AT which are still there, same spec as mine at high prices so I thought it was a good time to sell.

The issue is buying a C5X, the right C5X. First thing is I want the Shine+ / Max trim, and second I'd slightly want the 1.6 PHEV over the 1.2 MHEV. There is an odd hypnos out there but they are silly money. Then there is a dilemma and I'd really appreciate what people's gut feeling is on this.

The Plus/ Max designation took over from Shine/ Shine+ I believe in October 2023. The big batch of 74 reg's from a few months back seem to virtually all gone in PLUS/ MAX trim. I can find a 24 plate MAX 4k miles for 25k, 74 plate MAX no miles for £27k. Then theres a 24 plate Hypnos with 3k miles for £28k+.....silly money...and I dont like that weird blue though on the Hypnos.

But then there are the old Shine+ versions. These are all 74 reg but are the old variant. probably 2023 build date but perhaps 2022. I've found I can ascertain the build yr by the 10th VIN character. Chances are all of these were built over 2 yrs ago. The good news is the price, I have a choice of Shine+'s in good colours around £22k or below.

I enquired about a shine+ a few days ago, a 74 reg shine+ with del miles and was told it was gone. Then they tried to sell me another in stock with del miles, at the time I didn't realise it was a 23 reg and the guy told me the traction battery had just been replaced. So for those cars sitting it ain't doing the battery a lot of good.

Going through carwow for a new MAX 1.6PHEV gets as low as £35k.

So what do I do? Expect/ hope for another flurry of late reg ones like occurred a few months ago and when this happens hope a 25 plate Max crops up at say £24k? Or just bite the bullet on a Max now? Or just get one of the cheapi Shine+'s...... which by the time they have gone through the stock at Mpoint may end up being as low as £21k?

Of course in the latter case I might be storing up problems for the future but if the battery warranty is from the registration date and is for 8 years even if it does fail is it really a problem apart from the hassle of getting it replaced?

I'd just like to know how ppl see it. Thanks in advance for all comments.
