Thanks again jaf. I did that after I renewed the solenoid. It sucks well enough to hoover our front room. That's the problem tho' . When it sucks it opens the waste gate and it bogs it down . If I remove it, it revs easy!! Obviously I can't drive about with an uncontrolled turbo. But it might last long enough to drive it to the scrappy LOL. Peter.

So instead of going to church this morning and begging for help. I trawled through a few forums. Trying to work out if the wastegate should be open or closed at tick over. Well most said it was closed when not under load and open when pressure gets up. Also some say that it is open by default as a safety measure.
Well anyway I also read an interesting bit about the solenoid having a vent pipe ..(I wondered why there were three pipes) .. this chap said his was blocked which left a vacuum after engine is turned off. Mine does that. Also there is a little filter on the end of the tube which gets blocked. I am off now to try and find which pipe is the vent. Once more unto the breach dear friends or.......

Had another crack at it. Checked all pipes and everything was good and in the right place. Tried the vacuum pipe on and off and plugging the end of pipe to trick ECU. Reading diag. each time no faults. Then sadly I lost my rag. After putting the vacuum pipe back on I gave the fast pedal some grief and tried revving it, catching a few revs and getting it to 2 to 3k on a couple of occasions making it generally hate me as much as I hated it. Calm down Peter it is a bit of metal not a real Frenchie. So after a few breaths of carbon monoxide and opening doors, I read the diag again. Mon dieu! the old EGR ghost appeared ..p0490 p1495.
Ah,so you've been hiding I thought. Cleared them. Started up again not so aggressive on the gas. Turn off ..check no faults!. Repeat ..no faults ...rev it up as best as possible generally making it cough and spit a bit. EGR doesn't like it all. Both faults. Go home and order new expensive Valeo egr. Have lie down ......Peter.

Haha, You are making some progress at least - even if it is how to replace the EGR again and again. You'll have the process down to a few minutes by the end ;)
As for wastegate open or closed. In a youtube clip i watched (he had a full turbo off the engine and in his hands, pushing the rod that controls the wastegate and letting it go to its normal position) its seems open when there is no vacuum, so when engine starts, the vacuum starts and closes the wastegate - at least thats what I saw - and that logic makes sense in my head at least - I'd love to know if i am right or wrong on that if someone else can confirm.

Has there been a fix In the end for the mystery loss of power? I'm getting the exact same faults, same situation, I think you have a clone of my car!

You may have a different issue - get it diagnosed and put the fault codes up.
