The RAV4 had exactly the same arrangement (combined rear disc and handbrake drum), and could also be a pig to dismantle and refit.
Handbrake shoes don't wear much, and the mechanism isn't built to be easily relaxed, so can be tight.
A new set of Toyota handbrake shoes were a nightmare to fit, and could lock up when the car was reversed.
Probably made by the same supplier as for Nissan?
So glad to have got rid. One of the highlights of 2021 for me.
