Got the secondhand box on. It did not want to go. Got all the other bits to put back on.
This box has a viewing hole on the bottom, brilliant for checking the clutch forks are in place.

Finally finished and went for a drive. Secondhand gearbox is smooth and all gears, including 5th, are good. My dad, who has an excellent ear, says this gearbox is quieter than the original.
I’ll take the original gearbox apart in a few days.
