What spec is that? It is obviously not a UK car, but series 1 cars with the winter pack (headlight washers and I presume heated seats) are fairly unusual.jauv wrote: ↑13 Sep 2019, 04:09What have I donejauv wrote: ↑11 Sep 2019, 15:41 Joined the forum to read up on tomorrow's plan - going to check out a 97 Xantia which looks to be in decent shape with ~135 000km in odometer. Though it has sat in storage for 10 years until recently, so I'm not expecting much. Hopefully it's as good as it seems, would certainly lead to more Xantia content.![]()

To usurp our new friend replying, I think Finland
Karjalaisen, the sign on the building, might be to do with Karjala, the eastern part of the country (and partly in Russia) we call Karelia

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
Good stuff, hopefully one more back on the road. Looks well in that colour.
By the way, our Black 1.9D auto is still around. Just hibernating although I have all the parts needed to get her back in rude health for the foreseeable future, and there's a couple of facelifted silver ones running about locally too. Seems we live on quite an FCF estate too, there's a 2.1TD XM five minutes walk from us & a BX GTi16v 30 seconds the other way, not to mention 3 or 4 205s down the bottom (including at least one Mi16 swapped GTi) and the plethora of 206s including our pair. Oh and a house down the road has a matching pair of Red 107s too!

Exactly right, it's Finnish spec. Karjalainen is also a common surname, and apparently one of them established a shipping company.
But yeah, wish me luck. Its got normal services done and LHM replaced recently, but at least lambda and front brakes are on the list to be replaced. Quite possibly much more will be discovered.

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
Mine is still in daily use. Bought it with 37,000 miles from new 18 months ago. 1.9 LX diesel. No rust. I love it ![Smile :-)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
51 mpg on long run (I drive like a kitten) still on original Lucas injection system and two of the heater plugs are originals too: I have managed to trace ownership from new. It spent most of its life on a Scottish island, driven by a doctor. Perfect door hinges too...
Hoping to respray bottom half of car over the winter. Too many small dents/scratches (metallic dark green) that mostly happened within the first few months of me owning it. All on car parks, whilst parked!
I would hate to own a brand new 20k car and watch its slow demise through careless drivers.

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
The 1.9 non turbo was the first Xantia i ever bought, was a brilliant car, all the comfort and the one i cut my teeth on in terms maintenance and understanding of how the suspension worked etc, never going to win a drag race but awesome all the same.
My good lady and myself are looking at buying another C5 X7 and the debate is not down to the colour/engine/equipment but who gets to drive the Xantia, the C4 is going when we get the C5 X7 but as a daily driver i am happy to let her have the C5, but it is a little tricky at the moment, would rather be negotiating Brexit lol

Couldn't agree more with the last sentiment - but you were lucky to get a rust free Scottish island car.1080 wrote: ↑14 Sep 2019, 21:36 Mine is still in daily use. Bought it with 37,000 miles from new 18 months ago. 1.9 LX diesel. No rust. I love it

Just lurking, it seems... No shortage of them recently.

Re: Where have all the xantia posts gone?
They are well known for leaking around the sump and around the camshaft covers, and if you are unlucky, below the camshaft support blocks. But there is usually good evidence left on the ground. When the cam covers leak, they often leak into the spark plug wells, so you don't see any leakage until they are full.

After a drive, leave some clean cardboard (old box) on the ground under the emgine bay. Should help locating where it drips from.
