I think the copy position is a red herring here, it doesn't have a sensor so it can't know where it is.
You can check the MAP easily - just look at it in Diagbox with ignition on and engine stopped, it should be reading atmospheric pressure (around 1000 mbar, depending on the weather and where you live!)
Does the actuator on the turbo return quickly when you press it down?
I think these do have the filter on the vent from the solenoid, if the MAP is reading OK, and the turbo returns fast, then I would disconnect the vent or the filter and take it for a run and see what happens.

The copy position is measured by the pressure sensor after the turbo.

So the MAP provides both data for intake pressure and (the ECU) infers the turbo regulator solenoid valve position from it (and poss other data) as well?

Maybe the MAP is faulty then

At this point I see no other evidence to suspect the MAP, and as Richard advises you can check it with Diagbox.

(ETA) If the turbo copy position sensor doesn't actually exist and it's values are assumed according to other data, then I'm leaning toward sticky turbo vanes.

Thanks. Yes the MAP seems to be reading 1000mbar or so at idle. Where will the filter be for the solenoid?
I might try cleaning the vanes. I've seen people use Mr Muscle. Would this be fine on this turbo? Vanes seem easy to get to

The new sensor fixed the depollution error, however, the gearbox seems to be knackered, and not economically repairable

It is the EGS, and by the looks of it, input shaft bearing. It may have spat oil on the clutch as well, as it has slipped occasionally

Guess it was a right pain to change, seem to remember in a previous post you were thinking of putting it up on ramps to change it.

It was, even on the ramps it is difficult, took 2 of us in the end.

I dont suppose you took any photos of where it is located on the engine, ordered one for mine but still have no idea of its exact location.
Happy to remove lots of bits from the top to dive in that way but cannot get car over a pit or a 4 post lift and i have no ramps, axle stands i am a allergic to if i need to get right underneath

It's on the back of the engine above the OS drive shaft. I think there is no other way then from underneath....

Unfortunately not. You do not have to remove anything to get to it. I went underneath the car whilst my brother helped by going through the bonnet.
