You need to see live data Taffy. See actually what the various sensors are up to. A basic code reader won't do that.

been tryin allsorts today cause lack of money and lexia..its like the only pressure that gets to the hp pump is the lp pump....is there a return valve to the tank? its like the lp pump just keeps pumpin it back to tank...the lp pump doesnt stop running however long u leave ignition on

in other words what stops the low pressure pump when its at correct pressure (2.5 bar?) and what holds the pressure?

Theres little pressure between the tank pump and engine pump... the tank pump just primes the air out of the engine pipes and makes sure the engine pump has fuel in it.. The engine pump then pressurises the Fuel rail hence all the metal pipes.

You can check for fuel feed to the rail, undo ONE of the unions to the injectors, (14mm spanner I THINK), just crack it open and just spin the engine over... if theres fuel pumping then it WILL be all over the place!!! The engine pump gives a continuius STREAM of fuel to the rail, not timed pulses like older pumps.

Once you know you have fuel at the injectors then either the injectors arent triggering or theres a duff sensor some where.

To answer you pump running question, inside the ECU box next to the Suspension pump theres a Brown Double relay unit next to the engine ECU. This controls the fuel pump..

looking at this it says the fuel filter is the low fuel pressure regulater...is that the long valve inside the top going down into filter housing....it just seams the hp pump Might not be getting a good enough volume of fuel to me...when it stopped that morning it went to start and then hasnt since...like it had pressure in the accumulater rail and then wasnt bein feed? checked lp pump and cleaned...wen key on fuel comes out of filter but like a tap on slow havent tried putting a good 12v feed to it yet reading about low current to pump cause of wireing...another thing buggin me took off 3rd piston switch and turned key on and it did go everywhere!! even over the windscreen! its the most pressure ive seen so far...even tried clamping the return off the hp pump and feeding two stroke into it...so frustrated never in all the years ive owned them had this much trouble....as the lp pump wears does it loose its pressure? i read somewhere about the filter test bein done and it spraying a good 3-4 foot out of the filter!? mine manages about 3-4 inchs lol
thanks again :)

11 - 2 - FILTRATION RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY

(E1) Diesel inlet from tank .

(E2) Diesel inlet from coolant outlet housing .

(S1) Diesel outlet : To coolant outlet housing .

(S2) Diesel outlet : To high pressure pump .

(S3) Diesel outlet to tank (return circuit) .

(60) Bleed screw (Water in diesel fuel) .

(61) Low pressure regulator .

(62) Filtering element .

(63) Thermostatic element .

Filtration of impurities bigger than 5 microns .

Replacement interval (Diesel filter cartridge) : Refer to the maintenance documents .

11 - 3 - DIESEL HEATER

The fuel is heated by the cooling circuit (on the coolant outlet housing) .

The temperature of the fuel is regulated by a thermostatic element (63) (incorporated in the filtration reservoir) .

11 - 4 - OPERATING PHASE (THERMOSTATIC ELEMENT)

The thermostatic element (63) is a bimetallic strip which deforms according to the temperature of the fuel .

Fuel temperature below 15 degrees C :

the bimetallic strip (63) closes the direct passage to the filter
the fuel is directed to the coolant outlet housing to be heated before filtering
Temperature between 15 and 25 degrees C :

the bimetallic strip (63) divides the intake flow: one part of the fuel passes directly towards the filtering element (62), the other continues to be heated
Temperature above 25 degrees C :

the bimetallic strip (63) closes the direct passage to the heating circuit: all the fuel is directed to the filtering element
11 - 5 - LOW PRESSURE REGULATOR

The scavenge pump (51) generates a supply pressure of 2.25 ± 0.25 bars .

The low pressure regulator (61) regulates the pressure after filtration of the diesel to 1.25 ± 0.25 bars .

looking at this post someone changed the whole filter housing!!
what effect would disconecting the fuel heating part of the fuel system have?
would make sure the system has less places to lose its pressure

well taken fuel housing apart and cleaned and i havent seen any swarf! it was actually quite clean...taken main jet out of pump and also pressure reg back off and soaking and moving the ball off its seat as if it was stuck open it would only give 100 bar pressure without the solinoid non engaged....gona run pump with no main jet and pressure reg to try and clear any debris and give it a last hope...rebuild kits for cp1 bosch are only 20-30 quid so im tempted but hopeing pressure reg is to blame

Had you ever opened the MEATAL FUEL RAIL PIPE union and spun the engine over to check for fuel to the rail?

oh yes paul :) wasnt impressed with the flow thou...im also thinking the low pressure side could be week...it takes 0,8 bar to force past the ball valve in the inlet of the pipe....the pressure just seems enough to lubricate so im removing the lp pressure reg in the filter housing and see what that does,,,just hopeing its the fpr stuck open :)

looking at my old filter housing top ( which was on the car before the pump went last time which i had to break off to change fuel filter...phew lol) it had no fuel pressure reg on the end...and thinking how the car started and drove before it was spotless...well ive played with the fuel reg and soak it in wd40 most of night and this morning...filter housing clean and new filter last week...cleaned high pressure outlet of pump which wasnt dirty lol however the pump is quite rusty inside...if she goes after this she will go on a diet off stp or redex and some two stroke jus for good meassure...i havent filled my tank up for quite a while now and thinking its condensation in the tank dripping into the diesel maybe? just a guess really or somethings leaking from the weather defence of the body work...
well i should have an answer in next hour so fingers crossed :)
