Probably depends what the first owner elected to have enabled. Mine had most of the stuff enabled when I bought it. Maybe it's enabled as standard on certain models only.

Just changing one of these for a customer, reasonably easy once you have done it, but the bulb is £75 + vat #-o

I have posted my solution to replacing the original Halogen bulbs with LEDs here http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... ts#p292308" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
I did this in August 2011 and mine are still working and I do in excess of 15k per year.

My C5 Tourer (2009/09) doesn't have the option to activate the daytime running lights on the dash menu, my only options for lighting are 1) Directional lighting i.e - for un-lit country roads etc, and 2) Follow me home lighting which basically just means the headlights stay on for 15 seconds after you lock the car. Any one know if there is a way to activate these DRL's without going to the main dealer? There are definitely bulbs installed in the thin strip section at the bottom of the headlamp unit - it's just knowing how to get them working!!

You'll need to connect the car up to a Lexia/Diagbox to get the option to appear on the dashboard. Have a look here to see if there's a Lexia owner near to you willing to help:

Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Yep. All X7 cars have DRL's fitted and possibly only the exclusives have them enabled as standard. Previous owners may have had them enabled as an option on the "vehicle parameters"/"Lighting" menu.

Reading back through this thread, is anyone amazed at the info given by main dealers and garages " Definitely not an option on this car, not even from factory order". What a load of old B*llocks. It makes you wonder if they have any Citroen knowledge at all. If they don't know, they should tell you that, not make up an answer.

I have a VTR+ and the DRLs were enabled ... my guess is that the fitted the bulbs on all cars, but decided to not enable them on lower end versions, just so they can sell it as an option ... "we can activate it for you, for the price of ...", add value per choice ... :D

I didn't say Citroen in general ... afaik, in Croatia, all the C5's have the DRLs (halogne or the newer LED types) active per default ... maybe it depends on the market, or road regulations (which lights are obligatory and when), I don't know the situation in the UK that well ...

Not sure either but it wouldn't surprise me if new cars had to have DRL's. In fact I'm almost sure they do.
At least that's one "Option" they won't be able to charge for!

I think there is actually an EU wide regulation for the european manufactured and sold cars, after say 2012 that all cars have to have DRLs as standard ... not 100% on this, but pretty much sure ...

Who wants, can read the EU directive 2008/89/EC for more info ... :D ... not some random number, the actual content for the DRL question ...

To turn on the drls in a new C5 , you will need diagbox.
In the bsi config menu, there is a "customer options" section .
In that , turn on "dedicated daytime running lights"
This will allow you to acces "lighting" on the steering wheel control & turn them on & off at will.
Car I just did this on was an exclusive, so check you have the bulbs fitted first.

That won’t work. They are controlled by the Control Module in the steering wheel and via the BSI.

You first have to use Diagbox or message a member here who has a kit near you, or get the dealer to activate it for you to enable the menu on the MFD accessed by the steering wheel control wheel.

List of Lexia / Diagbox members willing to help - scroll to bottom of list for a Google map of locations.

The X7 uses multiple CAN multiplexed networks - you can cause major problems if you start cross-wiring that will cause errors and faults in other equipment.

Apart from that, DRLs must switch off or dim when headlights are active, so you won’t be road legal either.
