Hi Citrojim
The forum (in the 2 years ive been on) has been ultra reliable, nothing like what the BXclub was like a while back but its gone down twice in as many months, hope its not an omen of thing to come.
Im sure Chris and Noz are on the case though (thanks gents), and thankfully we have all got somewhere to go
good ol FCF!
But,there's no place like home, there's no place like.........................................

Hi Gang, here we are again!
Andrew, can you enlighten us further about Chris's comments? If he has a problem it would be good to let us all know in case we can help.
Jim, I may be missing something but I haven't found a post of yours here as good as the one you posted on ClubXM! And I do check regularly.

To recap as best as I can recall the general comments Chris made last
night, he updated comments on the C2 he bought as a replacement for
his Xm and was prompted to log in as Mr Webmaster as there was a
problem with the registration of a new member.
His C2 is on 18k miles or thereabouts and the clutch is slipping which seems
a bit (a lot actually!) mad and the Citroen dealer wants around £700 labour
to fit a new clutch but that's without the new clutch.
Chris then went on to comment on an unanswered posting made by John
xmexclusive who asked about the rights of ownership which Chris left no
room for doubt that it's his baby and nobody else has any rights to. The
comment that there's actually some issues that need "kicking into touch"
was followed by an ambiguous sentence that in fact the forum will be
around for a while yet and in fact may get some changes/improvements
made to it - I'm not sure if that meant front end or backroom stuff being
changed mind.
There followed a few thread entries between Noz, xmexclusive and Chris
which commented about technicalities of why a particular area (C2 I think?)
was prone to spam.
I recall Ciarán offering to provide help/server space etc when the
ownership/longevity/reliability issues were thrashed out in the forum
announcements area the last time it all went belly up around Xmas;
seems that what he does and is in a position to help out if it's wanted.
If I've got any/all of this wrong, please correct me!!!
Jim, you're probably the lone trailblazer forV6 autobox rescue around any
of the Citroen forums, not just here on FCF! Sounds like the Blog and Activa
areas need better signposting?

Thank you Andrew. Chris's attitude towards the ownership rights to the forum content is worrying. The content is probably more complete than any Citroen manual and I'm sure that the many correspondents who imparted their knowledge over the years did so for the benefit of all XM owners.
Sounds as if, when/if the forum is back up, a mass download of all the umteen thousand pages is called for.
As far as your comments about Jim's work on the 4HP20 box is concerned, mine is working perfectly but I'm still waiting for his next instalment with bated breath.

Hi Dean, and other XM'ers, I thought I'd wait until someone else mentioned it, just in case it was my connection that was at fault.
Probably just a temporary problem, but I do think we should start thinking about saving/backing up all the priceless info on clubXM just in case we ever lose it permanently.
Anyone have any ideas how we should go about it?

On this and the BXC I take a backup of both forum databases at ungodly o'clock every morning. In this way, if the worst happens, the forums are never more than 24 hours out of date...
From the SQL error it looks like the database is corrupt but fixable..
If Noz wants any assistance with this, please feel free to point him in my direction...

Sounds like an awful lot of work this forum running business, you dont realise how much time and effort must go into it.On this and the BXC I take a backup of both forum databases at ungodly o'clock every morning. Im sure it will be up and going in no time though......so citrojim can update his xant/hp20 thread

It is a busy job Dean but well worth it for total peace of mind and I do honestly enjoy doing it. I'd be inconsolable if the archive of posts on here ever got lost... The databases themselves are also domiciled on a separate, remote server to the webserver for further security and backed up to tape once a week too!Deanxm wrote: Sounds like an awful lot of work this forum running business, you dont realise how much time and effort must go into it.
Who said I was a bit paranoid about backups? I freely admit I am...
It's all very Xantia-centric at the moment Dean and the job is concentrating on lifting the engine out as the 'box will not come out with the engine in-situ, a job planned for this weekendDeanxm wrote: so citrojim can update his xant/hp20 thread![]()
All the latest news is in my V6 blog in the members area of this forum.
I will update the thread on Club-XM as soon as there is concrete news on the state of my gearbox. I have new concerns about the lock-up clutch in the TC breaking up
How's your 4HP18 coming along?
