Hi Simon,
Replacing the Bitron is the very last resort.
The most likely cause is bad contacts on the Bitron pins, particularly pins 7 & 14, which are the inputs from the brown temperature sensor.
The pins of the Bitron are tinned with solder, and they need a good scrape.
I scraped them with the rough end of a broken piece of metals hacksaw blade, and then swept out the scraps of solder, and it's been good since.
I had tried in the past to clean them with a little blunt screwdriver, and then squirted them with WD40, but that's only been good for 3 days back then.
As for the Bitron's location and accessibility, no good news that you would want as a New Year's present, so let me know if and when you do want to read about that.
Because of the Bitron's location and long loom length, it has an intermediate plug/connector that causes intermittencies too.
There is a modification that consists of hard-wiring two contacts on the intermediate connector, probably the white/orange connector on the inner wing next to the battery positive terminal.
You pull the white part upwards, and it separates.
Wonder if the hot, dry weather has fixed your air conditioning.
Perhaps moisture in the plug to the compressor.
Happy New Year,

and trouble-free motoring.
Regards,
Terry.
