Hi Simon,

And my commiserations for that.
It looks like Richard's horror stories will prevail.
I remember a story on Planet Citroën Forum about there being a connector on the inner wing to pass the wiring to the Bitron inside the inner guard, and the connector causing intermittencies.
That forum has become a rat's nest, but if I find anything of use, I'll post it.

Regards,
Terry.
Thanks,

That would be very handy, as plugs like that can often cause intermitant problems when they corrode and I have just the stuff to fix them :) (LPS1) I don't mind going to the trouble of taking the headlight out if I know reasonably for sure that it will be under there and that I'll be able to identify it.... but if I take the headlight out and find.......nothing...... it won't be much fun... :?

Regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,

Confirmation from the moderator that it is 'under the headlamp'.
He says that you can see it by removing the battery, but will have to take the headlight out to access it.

No answer yet about the loom and plug/socket.
I've put that question back in, and wait for an answer.
I'll post the finding.

Terry.

Thanks Terry,

I'll put it on my (rather long) todo list :)

Is there any chance the problem is bad connections to the Bitron, or am I likely looking at having to replace it ?

Yesterday while working on the car and letting it idle it did the bursting up to full fan speed for only one second trick a few times.... however for some reason the air conditioning has been working flawlessly the last few days, and thank god for that !!! We've had between 34 and 37 degrees every day here for the last 4 days...

Obviously the problem knows I'm looking for it so has decided to lie low for a while....

Simon

Hi Simon,

Replacing the Bitron is the very last resort.
The most likely cause is bad contacts on the Bitron pins, particularly pins 7 & 14, which are the inputs from the brown temperature sensor.
The pins of the Bitron are tinned with solder, and they need a good scrape.
I scraped them with the rough end of a broken piece of metals hacksaw blade, and then swept out the scraps of solder, and it's been good since.
I had tried in the past to clean them with a little blunt screwdriver, and then squirted them with WD40, but that's only been good for 3 days back then.

As for the Bitron's location and accessibility, no good news that you would want as a New Year's present, so let me know if and when you do want to read about that.
Because of the Bitron's location and long loom length, it has an intermediate plug/connector that causes intermittencies too.
There is a modification that consists of hard-wiring two contacts on the intermediate connector, probably the white/orange connector on the inner wing next to the battery positive terminal.
You pull the white part upwards, and it separates.

Wonder if the hot, dry weather has fixed your air conditioning.
Perhaps moisture in the plug to the compressor.

Happy New Year, Image and trouble-free motoring. Image

Terry.
