Im less rural than you ian but the same age, less no claims (but they dont apply on classic policy anyway) and my 2CV is just over a 100 pounds fully comp. with FJ.

Some boxes fail at 130k on the dot, others seem to go on forever. As a general rule, if a box makes it substantially far past 130k, it's probably not going to fail.
Looking after them and changing the fluid every few k seems to prolong their life signifigantly.
Nothing wrong with manual XM's either, they're actually quite pleasurable to drive.... a bit like an upmarket Xantia with a few more toys. The diesels are quite torquey... and the CT Turbos are fun
