Im less rural than you ian but the same age, less no claims (but they dont apply on classic policy anyway) and my 2CV is just over a 100 pounds fully comp. with FJ.

Maybe I need to drop the Business Mileage bit - I think that's hitting me a little. As I have use of a pool car now, no need really...

The death time for the majority of XM autoboxes, if they're going to die, seems to be at, or very close to, 130k miles.
Some boxes fail at 130k on the dot, others seem to go on forever. As a general rule, if a box makes it substantially far past 130k, it's probably not going to fail.
Looking after them and changing the fluid every few k seems to prolong their life signifigantly.
Nothing wrong with manual XM's either, they're actually quite pleasurable to drive.... a bit like an upmarket Xantia with a few more toys. The diesels are quite torquey... and the CT Turbos are fun :)
