Hi Matt, as I said on my thread it sounds like the pump is struggling. I would check for fuel at the injectors first. You mentioned high cranking speed could compression be low. If you know someone with a scope you could do a relative compression test.i would check for fuel first and for air in the lines. She will either run like a bag of spanners or not at all if there is air in the fuel.i didn't have time to read the whole thread yet. I note in your first few posts you found the primer wasn't priming correctly have you changed it and did you change o rings on fuel lines.

For ease of reference in future. A bit waffling but this is the fault:

Re: C5 X7 no start (or only runs for fraction of a second)
I just completed doing the timing belt on my Peugeot 406 2.2 HDi Estate DW12. I removed the starter motor then spent 2 hours looking for the crankshaft TDC locking hole. Eventually found it on the other side, towards the back of the car, on the flange at the bottom of the block. Totally opposite side to the starter motor. I'm glad I found it because my guess would have been miles out. Trying to thread the starter motor back in now, which I took out needlessly
Hope this helps someone.

Yes it's helpful, I'll have the belt to change on my 2.2 HDi 406 Coupe at some point, so it's good to know.valveamp wrote: 25 May 2026, 16:20 I just completed doing the timing belt on my Peugeot 406 2.2 HDi Estate DW12. It's definitely next to the starter on the later 2.2 173 HDi (the Bi turbo) - think there's a picture in here somewhere (will add a link if I find it)
