Still not convinced about the 'coil springs' Chinese or Iranian! I think it's likely to be the corrugated rubber boots as mickeymoon says.

If I recall there were quite a lot of cars made in Iran by different manufacturers. The Hillman Hunter was made for many years after production ceased over here.

The only Xantia I've ever seen with coils was owned by a Malaysian guy who used to post on here who couldn't get spares at all and had used some ingenious way of adapting Toyota rear springs and dampers to fit his Xantia.

Also I noticed loads of Reno 12's in Turkey a couple of years back. Made by Oyak in collaboration with Reno.

Well chaps and chapeses I've been absent for a while nervously clocking up the miles in the old Xantia oddly enough it only blows smoke on short journeys two days ago I did a 220 mile run nearly to thetford and back and no sump oil was burnt at all however on returning home the dreaded smokiness continues going just a couple of miles up the road personally I think the egr is possibly blocked up. I drove a c5 estate and to be honest you might as well go buy a van it was heavy and absolutely huge compared to the xantia
So I paused for thought yesterday and today in Grantham I bought a 2007 c5 exclusive hatchback with FSH and only 83k on the clock. It drove beautifully and the ride compared to my xantia estate is a heck of a lot better. I'm not yet back downnto earth on the car I've managed to buy it has lots of toys. Working air con elect seats massage drivers seat rumble strip warning built into the seat. The list goes on. All in all I'm very happy I just have to wait for it to have a new not put on it and I shall pick it up. Glad I waited all this time really I could have made a silly mistake buying the wrong car and the estate shook my confidence after. A dilly prang on my birthday this year. The c5 estate just seemed a bit to big for me to cope with. Thanks everyone who took part in this thread especially those with specialist knowledge of the c_5 auto gearboxes I discovered I could buy a manual and have a duck clutch fitted instead so when I pick up the car after a trip to Pleiades for new brakes all round and checking the Eolys fluid it will be off to Cambridge to have the duck clutch fitted. Thanks again everyone . regards and happy Christmas . Nigel.

Which engine did you eventually go for Nigel?

Paul. Its the 2.0 138. Exclusive hatch cloth seats. Not leather. I figured I might be able to dismatle cloth seats if needed later leather worried me a bit. I've stripped down and repaired the xantia seats twice now.

I'll take some pics later and post here the bodywork doesnt have a mark on it. And underneath its very clean not steam cleaned just very clean. The engine looks like new compared to the estate I saw it wasnt even suffering the mottled alloy corrosion that you see on some engines. I hope its worth it. Goes like a Japanese train.

There is only 6 inches of difference between hatch and estate. The wheelbase is the same. Maybe someone had stretched it?

Hello Jim,

The fans and motors will hopefully fit my Dads Mk1 VSX so being as Ive just put them in to my car I am hoping
They will be easy enough to remove and fit to my Dads car, he has the large fan casing I think
and his fans don't work anymore. the S2 Headlamps, indicators etc. are available free to anyone that wants them
Better she lives on than not at all.
when your feeling up to it Jim I can bring the C5 over for you to test pilot. to say thanks for all your help

regards.

Nigel.

Lexi,

yup but the estate C5 feels so much bigger bearing in mind Ive had two low speed prangs in the last five years
in the xantia estate one reversing over a hill could only see the sky in rear window
and the other was just stupid I looked down then when I looked up the front of the car was firmly planted
in the back of a Vauxhall Astra.
I also considered parking and manoeuvring the estate on my six foot wide driveway and thought it a tad to big.
I also considered five hours to polish the estate a little to excessive and thought a hatch might be easier to do.

I'm happy with the hatch now besides there is less to offer up to the dreaded tin worms.
I'll just have to hope I do enough mileage to keep the FAP nice and clean.

I had good long chat with the new/old Pleiades Mechanic Simon, who said it wasn't anything to worry about as Citroens
are pretty much ahead of the game when it comes to FAP as they use Eolys fluid to regenerate the Filter as lower temperatures.
where as others use extra diesel injected into the engine to clean their filters out, this can mean that fuel passes the rings and
waters down the sump oil eventually allowing the engine to run on the sump oil which can lead to engine destruction.

if push comes to shove Pleiades can do a forced regeneration of the FAP filter Simon said they did one a short while back
they changed the engine oil and filter first then ran the engine at 4,500rpm for about 15 mins with the car stationary
he said it felt like the engine was going to blow up so they retreated into the office just in case and the smoke that came out of the exhaust
was quite bad to.

Another garage tried around the corner but the system used diesel fuel and not Eolys fluid apparently that engine didn't survive the process.

The FAP filter on the exhaust is about £160 to replace on the C5 apparently plus fitting and they are getting cheaper to buy these days.
apparently they are routinely replaced at around about 70,000 miles and it can take this long for them to clog up as Citroen tend to use a bigger capacity filter
than other makes do.

regards.

Nigel.
