Fire risk was the big one I'm aware of, but there a few (some a bit construed to me - as more accurately "what's the risk of interacting with pigeon droppings" is really what's talked about) listed here:

https://allaboutsolar.co.uk/what-happen ... ar-panels/

Not sure how effective the edge netting is - first time I saw this close up was the solar panels had it at Martin Mere (odd to see an "anti bird" thing at a very "pro" birds location!)

Dry pigeon poop is dangerous, but why are solar panels not surrounded by a plastic 'skirting' when fitted?

Good question, seems to be available as an add on but odd it does not seem to be the default, yet.

Our panels are a bit different as they sit flush (and so replace some of the roof tiles)

Following the washer+dowel device, we went for a stroll to Toolstation as I was about a meter or short of gutter, so a new length of 3m has joined the system up.
Hole saw drilled the top of the barrel and a short downspout to finish the job:

Oddly enough it hasn't been a problem until this year. Three of my neighbours have had anti sky-rat netting fitted and I probably will too fairly soon.
I would normally do it myself but getting a bit unsteady prancing about on rooves now.

No, that's fair enough. I was very glad of that lovely scaffold platform (ran all the way around the house all sides) - lovely to be up there.

I don't mind heights, I just dislike the "transition bits" like moving from ladder, onto roof and especially not the back the other way!

I wouldn't be against the "sky rats" if we could just get them potty trained and better yet earn their status as song birds a bit more skin to say a blackbird's efforts!

I'm wrong, pigeons are not song birds - I'm getting mixed up, crows are songbirds but put in a very poor attempt at it!!

The parking places are always surrounded by trees and the flying rats drop phenomenal amounts of crap on the cars that etches the paint.
Fewer trees = fewer birds, hopefully.

Fifteen years ago I was quite happy prancing about on the roof. Not any more and my kids have conniptions when I do climb the ladder. Have to do it in secret.

My dad was up on the roof of a four story Victorian house when he was 92. Died a few weeks later falling off a chair, in a care home, fiddling with the TV as he couldn't find the remote.

Actually no, what we really need is a massive reductions in humans dropping rubbish and litter everywhere and thus giving these urban flying rats an easy living.

Deny them food via copious amounts of litter, mainly from fast-food establishments, and they will fly away and seek their fortunes elsewhere and also regulate their own numbers.

If you ate a diet almost exclusively composed of discarded takeaway/fast food litter and old fag ends you'd be dropping phenomenal amounts of crap too...

True Jim, we've pulled into a service station Sunday for a Cup of tea ( decaf) while we were sitting there having a break the ammount of people I saw throwing there burger wrappings into the hedge rows was unbelievable, they even walked past the bins to do it 😳 then I had to now not being rasist they were not British of any origin , Smoking one cheeky sod went to sit on the wing of my car so I stepped ot to the car and kindly asked both to please go smoke else where and keep off my car which I was met with some mumble and a word which had what sounded like blah blah off, so I replied if you read the public notice is states no smoking at all and all rubbish must be placed in the bins provided.
