As we well know bobins, money is the root of all evil, so my guess would be cost cutting in the parts supply market and all that could follow!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Reducing the quality of the important bits so they can stick more shiny stuff on.mickthemaverick wrote: 15 Aug 2025, 09:18 As we well know bobins, money is the root of all evil, so my guess would be cost cutting in the parts supply market and all that could follow!![]()

Above , about one of the best thing they made
. I cannot believe in this day and age recalls are getting more and more and what make sme laugh these are everyday car features . Something not right somewhere just saw this chap running away from a local psa dealership this morning maybe it's the new peugeot badge
Husky.
Thinking outside of the box is better than sitting in a dark one.

Reading the bits in bold below:bobins wrote: 15 Aug 2025, 09:09 It'd be interesting to know what the actual root-cause of the fire related issue is. Is it down to cheaping out on parts, poor design, operator error on the production line, suppliers cocking up, or something else ? Was it actually a reasonably foreseeable issue, or is it a bit of an unusual issue ?
Retightening loose nuts could be operator error, but equally could be they are done to torque settings and the tool used (in the production line?) wasn't doing them tight enough.due to loosened nuts.
'This can potentially lead to higher fuel leakage consumption and, in a worst-case scenario, to occurrences of fire in the engine.'
They added: 'Stellantis already started the proactive outreach to vehicle owners, asking them to contact the dealer network to schedule an appointment.
'The rework consists of retightening the nut connections on the high-pressure pipe and the screws of the rail
Once fuel is spraying about it only needs to find something hot enough.
So not necessarily a design issue.
My 308 SW seatbelt recall mentions "reinforce the seatbelt mounting" which sounds like an additional reinforcement - which reads to me as to correct a design issue.

To be fair Matt it is still feasible that the design specified a particular set of dimensions for the bracket including the thickness of the metal to be used. Error or economy in the production line may have resulted in a thinner material being used and hence the result has now been identified as a potential weakness to be rectified by adding reinforcement to the brackets. Of course I doubt we'll ever know but seeing exactly what they do to yours will be interesting!!MattBLancs wrote: 17 Aug 2025, 11:35 My 308 SW seatbelt recall mentions "reinforce the seatbelt mounting" which sounds like an additional reinforcement - which reads to me as to correct a design issue.

Thinking a bit more about that, maybe a little detective work is called for. Can you mechanically punch marks into your existing brackets to be able to tell if they are replaced or reinforced when it goes in?

Yes, a good point Mick.
I still need to ring the Peugeot dealer to get booked in, but I'll try and get photos of the seat belt mountings (or at least what's visible!) before it goes in for "the fix"
The boys aren't riding in this car until it's done (which is fine as generally no hardship/inconvenience to just use the Grey 308 SW when we are all off and about)

Not sure I can even see them as yet Mick (also a bit concerned that "signs of tampering" being an excuse - perhaps over cautious there!)mickthemaverick wrote: 17 Aug 2025, 12:57 Thinking a bit more about that, maybe a little detective work is called for. Yes a valid point Matt, maybe a light scratch next to a bolthead would not be detectable, and if it was it could be understandable.

I'll see what I can do Mick, would be good to at least get an idea of what's been touched
Can you tell what this is for?

I could do with something similar to scrape the pigeons nests out from under my solar panels.

Why do that? Surely the pigeons are helping you insulate your roof.

And filling the gutter with bits of nest, feathers and s**t, plus the same in the garden, and making stupid pigeon noises.
If only I could get the bloke next door to let his hawk and owl fly free and eliminate them, the magpies and seagulls that blight the area.
We have thousands of trees along the streets that are diseased and going to be turned into charcoal/sawdust/MFI furniture, can't happen soon enough.
