Well that will give you some practice with the new toy when it arrives!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Indeed, mine's only a little one because I'm little and only work on little cars

Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
10am till 1pm and a dry day which saw me finally put brand new shocks on the rear of the 207 plus a new brake drum as well. Photos in no order , yellow sponge wedge between filler kneck and car body and the handbrake cable on the rear passenger side i used a lump of copper grease and the old work gloves as a type of packing to eliminate the possibility of that making a noise too.
So if you look at the photo collection I took some of the adjuster on the brakes to try show there is no hole behind to gain access to adjust them.
Also was greeted buy the broken piece of original drum when I took the wheel off. Picture of my little impact gun it's good but can't do hubnuts
Future plans when dry
Another brake drum
New handbrake cables
Check rear seats for lose fittings
Check possibly adjust door strikers could be these having a little slack that might cause a knock.
Today's results
The ride definitely feels better than ever however that knock is still there but nowhere near as regular as it was . One point for about 5 miles there wasn't a peep. Time will tell. At least I know it's all new in the passenger rear.

Good work Husky!
Think that drum spigot has had a good wack to crack a chunk off like that!
Would be tempted to seek out some new hub cap/covers, the one pictured looks a bit mangled to me.

Thanks Matt, Belive it or not the old hub was damaged by the new hub nut cap which came with the new wheel bearing as I was tapping it in place off it flew ... much to my annoyance, this is why I purchased this new one and fitted it today . But I think I will invest in a couple of new ones.

Re: Peugeot 207 1.6hdi (New edition to the fleet)
When I put the new caps on I use an old bearing shell against it and tap that with the hammer. If it is tapped in the middle it simply gets squashed against the axle/nut and then grinds down as the drum turns putting metal shavings inside (as I found out). To peen the hub nut I use a couple of hammers, the ball of one against the nut and then hit this hammer with the other.
You have probably done it but I put copper grease on the adjuster threads so the cog can turn easily.

I even put a dab of copper grease on the backing plate where the shoes touch just to make sure it was nice a slippery for the shoe to have movement without to much friction

Yes a good idea that. I try and tap around the edge but something the right diameter (bit big for a socket) to drive it down evenly is just the thing.PaulC5 wrote: 13 Feb 2026, 22:22 When I put the new caps on I use an old bearing shell against it and tap that with the hammer. Oh! My understanding is you should never bang two hammers together - both hard, they can eject chips at high velocity! To peen the hub nut I use a couple of hammers, the ball of one against the nut and then hit this hammer with the other.
Yep me too, everything gets a smear of the stuffYou have probably done it but I put copper grease on the adjuster threads so the cog can turn easily.

Shopping list
https://ebay.us/m/uiMYFP purchased 2.
Enquiries regarding compatability
https://ebay.us/m/AR4dSu (these should fit)
Purchased today 16th Feb as follows
https://ebay.us/m/3pxM7b this will then be both sides having new drum and bearings, then I can fit these
https://ebay.us/m/TYTZHh which i purchased a few weeks ago.
Plus purchased several days ago and keeping as spares
https://ebay.us/m/c5cyHw.
So once the handbrake cables have been confirmed for correct fitment and when ive warmer weather and free time i can set about a complete 150k plus complete overhaul of the rear brakes , then the front which I've got disc and pads all ready sitting in the workshop waiting to be fitted .
Update re wife, I brought her home last night she's still weak but can manage to eat properly and drink too its staying down too, she will be going back in a few weeks as the gall bladder will need removing hospital said she's a bit too weak at the moment but was fit enough to come home there still isn't a proper diagnosis to what it is it started from the upper part of the digestive system and went right through almost collapsed the pancreas and small intestine, inflammation levels very dangerously high for 2 weeks and she was starved for 14 days apart from IV , seeing someone so precious go through all this and all she was worried about was me ? I can't understand why , I was by her side every day twice a day which now feels like a blur, When she got in the car last night she said hello little blue and it felt like the car was pleased she was back in it , she said drive the long way home as ive missed the car so we did , the rain had stopped and all the stars were out which we could see very clearly, so this morning I've set about the rest of the brake components for the car as its earnt them .
