Well, up at 2am to head out for the first flight...fingers crossed I get there and back in one piece.

Why on earth did we decide to go via Paris again?!?...oh...yeah...it was £250 per person cheaper than flying direct, and there are four of us.

It'll be fine once your in Zel. My parents had to travel there recently for a funeral. They were apprehensive but found that once they were in the vast majority of Americans were disgusted and ashamed of the current situation and just getting on with life.

Well it meant what was effectively a 23 hour day, but I made it in one piece. Got an absolute grilling by the Border Patrol officer, but they eventually relented and let me through!

I've been thinking about this particular car a lot recently as I'm looking to branch out on a different path of classic car ownership... Can we chat when you are back home please?

It very much depends where you go. Last time I was there I visited both Alabama and Pennsylvania. The two places, and attitudes, couldn't be more different IMO. It's not a country I'll go to again, for whatever reason. Mrs. Michel's uncle has offered to pay for us to go in Long Island with him, flights and all. I said no, and I meant it.

I think old Eastern European tat would suit you very well Jim, there's some very bizarre stuff I could see you having a great time with - Wartburgs, Trabants, Skodas, Tatras, Moskvitch... in fact I can see you in a Tatra 603 very easily!

I think you're right Mike I've harboured a secret love of such vehicles for a long, long time now - longer than I care to admit.

Oddly, I've never owned a Communist-era car but have had a few bikes - my first was a Jawa moped and then an MZ upon which I had a few adventures

I really do love Zel's Lada to bits and a Wartburg and its lovely 2-stroke triple engine is very special... I could happily give one of those a good home

We can certainly work something out I'm sure Jim. It will officially be classified as "reserved" for the time being.

It's a lovely little car to drive, and I'm sure it will be a great car with a bit of TLC, probably suit you well Jim as well as a lot of it is stuff that can be done bit by bit.

Think we're both in a very similar boat in that we're in possession of good cars that we've for various reasons just fallen a bit out of love with.

I'll redouble my issues to track down a clutch cylinder for it now I've actually got a good reason to.

We really do need to get you out in the Lada sometime as well!
