Arse... it's dead... totally dead...

It's been driving perfectly. It's done over 100 miles with the gearbox working spot on. Changing up, changing down, kicking down, the works. Then, the morning I was meant to get it back, it's died :(

It kicked a couple of times when stone cold, then the revs went up, the car slowed down and it's lost all drive. I think it's a fairly safe assumption that the gearbox is toast.

Waiting till Monday now so we can get a price to have the box fully rebuilt.

Bugger... thought we'd been lucky with that.

:( Oh dear. A rebuild won't be cheap David.
Have you read Jim's rebuild blog?

I have, Steve.

Problem is the car is 400 miles from me. A couple of years ago, apparently a rebuild was about £2.5k so we'll need to get an up to date price on Monday.

A lot of cash David, shame there isn't an option for a second hand one - even then it is a risk.

Thanks Pete.

Unfortunately the 2.7’s have a different box from the 3.0.

Looking at the price of a 3.0 box, by the time I’ve paid the labour to have an unknown box fitted, I might as well have mine refurbished.

I'm trying to find the difference between the 2.7 HDI and the 3.0 HDI boxes.

The 2.7 uses the 20GG07 box, the 3.0 uses the 20GV04 box.

I can't find anything anywhere that suggests what the difference between the 2 units are.

Hard to say - there are differences between the AM6 on 2.0 and 2.2 engined vehicles concerning the weight of the AM6, and of the speeds in gear data for all the AM6 boxes, except the 2.7 and 3.0 HDi engined C6 and X7s which have the same data (not the Petrol 3.0i).

So there must be something different. Note that the AM6 ECUs also have different part numbers for each of the types too.

Hmm, probably not wise to experiment with a 2.7 box on a 3.0 car then.

Right, the C6 is going in for a gearbox rebuild on Thursday. Well, I say going in, they are collecting it on Thursday. They are very busy so it might be a couple of weeks before they can get to it but at least it's there for when they can start! Unfortunately an oil cooler isn't included in the price of the refurb and Citroen want £480 for one!

Time for a bit of Google'ing and a bit of friendly haggling with the local dealer tomorrow I think!

Thanks Lexi.

The only reason I'm spending the money on the box is because of the condition of the rest of the car. It really is tidy. There's not a spot of rust on it, everything on the suspension is solid with no leaks, new brakes, tyres, etc.

Here's hoping it pays off!

Fingers crossed. Was the ride ok? The AMVAR actuators on the struts are know to be problematic. When they go it can leave the damper setting in the strut in whatever state it was in when it goes. You’d only appreciate the loss if you’ve had a C6 with AMVAR though, as mere X7 mortals we’ve never had it! 😪

Surely it's time to do away with that oil cooler and fit a decent oil-air type?

Having had two boxes killed by it I'd not trust it further than I could throw it.
