Could be, or McVities & Prices, mentioned on Wikipedia

It just looks to be bare tin plate steel, do not much in the way of clues on the outside!

Good question, I'll have a look under / inside tomorrow see if gives any clues.

It's photographed really well, the lid looks really dull in reality, the sides bright and crisp colours. Will give a gentle clean too, see if any maker's name becomes apparent.

There's more "plain tin" ones somewhere can't think where / what stashed in them.

It's drill bits in the flowery blue tin :)

I have a cylindrical box in the loft which would confuse people, I'll try and get a photo tomorrow once I finally let people try my Scalextric set.... can't imagine it will be out long

I can offer nothing to this thread... All that I may have had was cleared out and rehomed/disposed of during my big purge of surplus stuff...

So far, I've not missed anything I've got rid of... In fact, as one fellow forum member well knows, if it's not firmly nailed down and not doing anything useful it gets removed to the tip at the earliest opportunity...

I have borrowed this picture as I cannot find the one I know I have somewhere!! When I were a lad my Dad used to have three of these in his bedside drawer and I never found out what was in them because my mother disposed of them after he died. All I know is they were a deadly secret!! :?

One of the links on the Scalextric page from the Brighton Toy Museum showed the Scalextric "Dealers list" from a double-page spread in the Meccano magazine in 1966 . Had a look of course, and noted that the "big-name" for such things in the North-East at the time was Boydells.

Should you wish to look at the list for your part of the country the link is here...a simple page down gives the list and locations. https://www.brightontoymuseum.co.uk/ind ... DEL_SHOP_2

One of the great Christmas Traditions of Newcastle was/is the huge Christmas tree in the concourse of the Newcastle Central Station, and Boydells used to provide the model railway around the tree.

In my youth and childhood the place with the greatest selection of Airfix Kits was called Pramfare at Consett.
Combined Selling Prams and other baby stuff with toys and models.

Surprisingly it wasn't the only business in the Country to combine the two....

From the Scalextric list in Meccano Magazine 1966

I'm wrong, I do have something to add to this discussion :)

Found I'd kept these despite my big garage clearout... They were dad's and kept for sentimental reasons...

The Castrol gear oil tin is still half full...

Maybe I should carry the tubeless tyre repair kit in Polly
