I got around to checking the battery on ours and it said reserve capacity was basically nothing, so I fitted a new one. Went with another Varta EFB the same as the (original) one that was in there - didn't do anything with the computer, but the Stop-Start started working again the next day, so it has recognised that the battery is in better health!

I doubt that the car has any way of knowing the type of battery. It just provides a power source.

I've changed batteries on both of ours without issues. Get everything to hand and do it reasonably quickly, there's probably a capacitor that keeps the computer alive for a little while without the battery.

Our Stop-Start frequently starts and stops working. It constantly measures the voltage. Unless it's 100% charged it won't risk stopping, in case it doesn't start again.

If ours don't get used for a while they need a long run before it starts working again. Both of ours have recent, good quality batteries. I also suspect at least one of ours stops stopping if the outside temperature is low. But this may be a false conclusion, it's possible that the lower termperature just results in a lower battery voltage via chemistry.

Ours Def switches off below -5C - an orange light comes on on the screen. It also stops above +35C(or some high temp), but I've only seen that once and it was only because the sun was shining on the sensor!

You don't want to do the change fast - give it a good 10 mins to go sleep before disconnecting, then a few minutes to wake up before trying to start it. Mk 2 Picasso's are a particular problem as many have developed alarm problems after a change, which seems to need a BSI re code to fix!
