Then you should be able to get a hook up onto the release lever and pull it open. :)

If you cut it carefully you may even be able to glue it back together afterwards as the number plate will hide most of the join.
I can already remove the grill along with the chrome surround, which exposes the radiator, that gives me a bit better access, the bonnet ends just above the "PEUGEOT" logo on the front grill, which also comes away when you remove the grill. But the part i need access too is above that, covered by the bonnet.

If you have a Peugeot dealer nearby I would ask the service people if they would be able to sort this, could be a lot cheaper than you cutting the car up and getting replacement parts.

Hopefully it wont come to that. I have fashioned a hook from a bit of metal wire and will attempt to get to the latch from under the car through the engine bay, I have tried to contact Peugeot but there website does not provide a phone number for me to call any sort of technical department

We have success. After a lot of swearing anyway.

Removed the two bolts holding the latch mount, you still cant lift the bonnet, but you get access to the latch. I fed my made up wire in from the left and pushed, as coming in from the right. You cant pull it. Ill get a youtube video up at some point explaining it. I now need to replace the release cable though, but I now have access to the engine bay, now to sort a few things out.

So from first inntial investigations, i need to find a way to remove the oil cap, as you turn it, but it doesnt come free, and also sort a leak of oil (most likely oil mist) from the top of the intercooler.

The bumper and bonnet will be getting a respray at some point due to damage and stone chips. oh and looks like the previous owner fitted the wrong kind of battery, its not a start stop battery.

But thank you everyone for some advice, even if that advice didnt amount to anything, it gave me the motivation to keep at it until the bonnet lifted and i got that angelic "ahhhhaaaa ah ahhhhhh" lol

Well that looks like you have some things to keep you busy, can I suggest you start a new topic under a more general '208 and what needs doing' type heading for the ongoing story for the benefit of other members in the future searching for general info about the 208? :)

I half expected the next photograph to be the car nose first in a skip with just its tailgate showing!

Well done Ian... Pleased the bonnet is now finally up :)

Try pushing the oil filler cap down as you turn it and then lift it when it feels at the end of its travel - about 90 degrees from where you started...

I've just realised your 208 has more or less the same engine as my Picasso. If you would like some Diagbox diagnostics ran, always good plan on a new acquisition, you are always very welcome to pop down the 509 and see me. In fact it would be really good to see you - it's been a while :D

Cant drive the car legally till the 1st, saved 100 on the insurance by being able to wait a few days extra before it kicks in. but when it does, ill bring it down and come see you at the same time, think last time we met was when i was delivering that vehicle for cinch lol

Be good to catch up.

TehAgent wrote: 24 Jul 2025, 16:45 Well, had the car on drive on ramps earlier, removed the front under-tray and tried to get to it from underneath within the engine bay, but no such luck.
I can not understand for the life of my why there is seemingly no way to access this from anywhere else.
I feel your pain, but if they made it easier to open from outside the car we would find a lot more batteries and expensive bits and pieces missing. Think about the trouble the thieves go to when they steal a catalytic converter while a car is parked in somebody's drive.
