A little tip. Because the tank wiring harness is somewhat exposed to the elements an intermittent electrical fault can occur. I would usually spray wd 40 into the cable connectors before reassembling. Also with Diagbox, even when you refit the original tank, it is important to clear the faults and then after to programme the ecu as if you have replaced the adblue tank/pump unit. You should do the same with a used tank as well.

Update:
Installed pre-used tank and cleared faults etc. Drove for about 45 min, no warning lights and live data showing 5.6-5.8 bar urea fluid pressure once cat above about 175C. So hopefully that has solved the problem and established that the original tank was the cause. Now awaiting opportunity to bench test the original pump, solenoid, sensor etc. Many thanks to all who kindly helped.

Update:
Finally got round to bench testing the old tank.
Shut-off valve and pump activating and providing 5.8 bar pressure using container of water as reservoir. So I guess either the tank filter is blocked, preventing fluid reaching the pump, or there is a problem with the circuit board.
If anyone wants the tank and complete pump unit for spares or repair, just message me to arrange collection before I take it to the tip.

For the benefit of anyone interested, whereabouts in Somerset are you? And where's the tank, if that's different?

I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post in. No doubt Sherlock Mickthemaverick will put it in the right thread. My friend has a 19 plate Transit Custom, passed it's MOT, new brakes etc. He's just put 10 litres of Adblue in it as the warning light came on and it drank it. I know there's a Use By date on Adblue, would this affect a self employed person who does short mileage? Also I've read somewhere about a Crystal additive, what is that exactly.

Hi Ryan, not sure on Transit's Adblue tank capacity but my 308 is a 17 litre tank so would easily swallow 10 litres of the stuff if not topped up for a bit. Never run mine down to the warnings but would guess pretty empty at that point.

The additive is Wynn's Crystal clear and protect, I'll dig out a link to me waffling about it when topped mine up. It goes in with the Adblue (just to confirm it's not in with the diesel or anywhere else)

Adblue bottle has conditions for storage on it (not too warm etc, 25°C or something - I'll have a look when I get chance) short mileage with modern diesel might give issues generally (i.e. no chance to do DPF regents) but not aware of any usage conditions around the Adblue system.

There's certainly a use-by date on Wynns Crystal Clear but I've been unable to find a use-by date on AdBlue itself. Understanding its chemical formula, it's quite stable stuff and this is borne out that it took over two years for my Picasso to consume a tankful - albeit dosed with Wynns.

And that's in far rom ideal storage conditions - from freezing during the winter to great heat during the summer...

If a vehicle has developed a real thirst for AdBlue, I'd suspect a weeping urea injector. Is the vehicle chucking out clouds of white steam with a distinct ammonia smell about it? Also, there's often tell-tale stains around the injector too...

I forgot the label was torn!

Storage instruction the freezing point - 11°C. Store out of direct sunlight. Shelf life: 18 months when (sto)red below 25°C.
Close containers when not in (u)se.

Bracketed bits are my guesses what's missing! :-D
