But as it's behaving properly now, it could have been water somewhere it shouldn't have been, and, unless you go through a car wash with your engine running won't happen again. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Knew it :rofl2:

Well, I've had it standing there running for over 1h this morning while I destroyed my wrist removing the off side DRL bulb .... again.... and for all that time it ran without a hint of an issue. Going out later so will see how it does on a journey.

Was fine on the run yesterday. Perhaps it did suck in water from the car wash after all.

Been nearly a week and it has been fine.

I had ordered a replacement radiator fan from autodoc and that arrived this evening. Fairly easy fit. But still something is wrong. Lexia actuator test fit the fan gives two options: low speed fan and high speed fan. Activating low speed fan nothing happens and the lexia says "component not started"
Activating the high speed fan and the new fan starts very slowly and gets faster until it's apparently at full speed then the test times out. I think the new fan works then? Not sure what the low speed fan option was about.

Had the car running up to temperature and idling for an hour and the fan did not come on at all. The a/c being on similarly doesn't make the fan come on.

All the time with the rad fan not working the engine never overheats...

I do notice that the fan does come on slightly when I unlock the doors. Not sure what that's about either.

No idea what's happening now but the car has been running well all week.

The fault code related to the fan was P495 , a fan speed coherence thing. Is still there after new fan fitted.

The other fan fault P691 temporary fault 'High Speed fan control SC. To earth' had now cleared since fitting the new fan.

Not sure what this fan business is about. I think the old fan was definitely duff but the new one doesn't seem to be activated by the car running. Only the lexia makes it run. I was hoping the a/c would start working with the new fan but it still doesn't.

Ha, OK although the fan wouldn't turn on engine idling last night for an hour it seems that it was running as I pulled in the drive returning home this afternoon, it's cooler today but was a bit of traffic. Possibly it is working OK. The fan is smarter than me

Ha ha! flipping technology!

I did think it odd Diagbox could tell the ECU to run the fan but the ECU didn't seem keen to do so itself. Mind you an idling diesel does not produce much heat at all, so perhaps it just wasn't getting hot enough like that

Agree it's odd if the fan isn't cycling when the car is stationary and the a/c is on, though.

I was under the impression that switching A/C on would cause the fan to spin (at slow speed) regardless of engine or atmospheric temperature.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

That's what I thought too. It's possible that the a/c is low on gas and is not switching on. Possibly in that state the rad fan also doesn't turn on.

Hi all, problem has returned! Idling the engine goes off. Always seems to restart and raised revs seem to prevent it, can even 'catch' it before it stalls with the throttle much like in a carburetor engine.
Only fault is P0409 to do with EGR valve.

Colleague suggested it could be stuck causing air intake imbalance or such. Does a grotty or sticking egr cause stalling?

Still doing it. Drove fine all the way to work. In car park. Idling it dies after a minute. Restarts, dies. Repeat. Then find that raising the revs and holding it runs OK.

Return this afternoon home. Heavier traffic. Makes it with not a hint of poroblem. Idling in the drive while I open garage it dies... seems to be when it's done a journey.

I changed the fuel filter (in the middle of doing service items anyway) old filter black but less than 18 months old. New one in. Running but the stalling soon shows up.

Kind of sounds like the engine knocks before it stalls. No other fault codes since yesterday so perhaps it is this egr valve sticking.

aerodynamica wrote: 16 May 2025, 17:52 Oh, anyone know what this large relay is for? It appears to have a damaged cover exposing the relay.

It's supplied from the white 80A fuse, it's on the inner wing next to the battery
I've seen this referred to as 'protection relays' but not sure exactly what they are. 80A is quite a large current to deal with.
Not sure if the same but I've just err, almost replaced the "Battery Protection Module" on my 308, various pictures on my thread of it (basically a bunch of fuses and a relay thing)

In my case almost replaced as turned out to be starter motor at fault

Thanks matt, I ran the actuator tests via lexia an seemingly everything was clicking or buzzing as intended. I'm still tending toward the EGR valve at this point
