Hi Paul, my local PSA garage suggested around 2.5 hours labour and then there's the cost of a new EGR valve.
It looks to me like the fuel filter needs to come off to get to the EGR, though my Haynes manual doesn't mention that

Re: Sticky EGR valves
Certainly looks more work than mine if like this (showing all tools):
More likely valve can't close properly with carbon buildup? EGR valve cleaner maybe worth a try?

Thanks for sharing that video Marc. Think I have seen but will watch again. Also thanks for reminding about cleaning, I think that is a bit easier than replacing the valve..

Re: Sticky EGR valves
Does anyone have experience of 'specialists' who claim to clean the EGR without removing?
I found this
https://carbon-cleaning.co.uk/egr-valve-cleaning
Despite my engine (first-gen 1.6HDi 16v) still performing OK, I am troubled a little by the engine noise when it's cold. There's a kind of electro-mechanical hum as if something is strained or short on power (but no mechanical rattling). Previously unheard on this car.
I remember the sound from my last engine (same, except 92bhp not 110bhp), which ended up failing emissions seriously
