Citroen Xanita V6 Help needed Please

Your results are indicating a faulty relay 1304, as you have 12V across the coil (pins 2 and 10) which should energise the relay coil. You have voltage on pin 11 but not pins 1 or 9. Those relays are usually pretty reliable.

relay 1304 I have 12V at pin 2 but not 10

Are the relays identical? I did swap them round but not difference. I did not check if getting voltage at pump when relays swapped.

Car is at my fathers 30mins away but ill try and get back tomorrow for further investigation.

Those relays are identical, but I think they both need to be functioning for the fuel pump to run. The other relay provides power to the engine ECU.

Check that the voltage on pin 11 of relay 1304 does not drop too much when the fuel pump should be running. I am sure that there is something going on around the relay that you haven't noticed.

Ok,

Finally got down to the car today with time to spend (not the usual under pressure), Started checking continuity of wires to see what was what.

At Relay 1304 Getting 12V in on all pins 14,8,15,2,and11

So started checking the ones I knew the end points for

So checked cable 1233 from pin 7 on relay to pin 36 on ECU this was ok
checked cable 1217 from pin 4 on relay to pin 37 on ECU this was ok
checked cable 1209 from pin 9 on relay to pin 2 on relay 1307 this was ok
checked cable 120 from pin 1 to Fuse 9 on under bonnet fuse box (this does not have continuity so must be broken!)

So then worked out that the cables from both Relays 1304 and 1307 go to a connector the the inner wing behind drivers front indicator.

Worked out which pin cable 120 runs from relay to this point and I have continuity so must be broken from there across to the fuse box.

As xantia_v6 stated:

10PR harness (which runs under the radiator) is well known for having wires fail from internal corrosion.

So I need to find the break in cable 120

I am working away for 2 weeks but will look on my return.

Any advise on the cable routing of 10PR harness and what needs to be removed? Wheel, wheel arch liner and or front bumper etc?

I can't remember whether the 10 PR harness can be accessed by removing the front bumper, or from below the engine, but either way, it is easier to leave it alone and to run a fairly heavy cable from one side of the break to the other.

Easiest to remove the bumper to get at it... It runs under the rad and that is usually where and why the splices within it fail..

It runs up under the nearside (RH) wing and terminates at the big multiway connector through the bulkhead.

You can see bits of it without removing the bumper to get the full view, remove both bumper and the RH wing mud shield.

In this post viewtopic.php?p=475017#p475017 there are some photos showing the harness with the bumper removed. I think that there are more photos somewhere on the forum, but I can't find them now.

Be aware that some Xantias suffered from corrosion of the positive leads near the battery. Although it looks like only one lead, fuse box power is crimped together with the heavy starter lead. It can then corrodes inside the insulation sleeving so that contact become marginal, enough to measure OK on a voltmeter but not enough for the engine to run.

You can try supplying the tank motor with a direct lead from the battery. If the car then starts and runs, suspect such a marginal connection.

Hi,

Managed to get down to the car yesterday and got the front stripped off.

Someone has been in there before one of each headlight retaining bolts was a 10mm hex, the rest where the original T30's

on both sides the T20's holding the bumper to wings where missing.

Couple of push fit clips for arch liners gone.

Also the car has no under tray (should the V6 have one?), every other Xantia I have had did.

Next time I am down I will trace the broken cable.

Good work getting that far without too much stress.

The V6 doesn't have an undertray.

While you have the bumper off, check the end of the vacuum hose connected to the cruise control pump in front of the LH wheel. They are usually split and leaking because a 3mm hose is forced onto a 4mm spigot.

Some V6's had under-trays.....but you would need to be a Spanish Policeman to have one

Hi,

So also noticed that someone in the past has done a bodge under/behind the passenger headlight, they have cut a section out of the plastic to get to a module and spliced in a red/black pair which heads off round the back of the air filter box, I'll get this off at some point later to investigate.

What does this module or relay control?

Any help appreciated, the job is growing arms and legs and this is only to get it started never mind the endless recommissioning jobs ahead to get it back on the road!

Quick bit of googling and its the Fan relay, so guessing cable is going to temp gauge in thermostat?

That bundle of white wires in the second photo does not look original. The splices there (or at the other end of the white wires) could be related to your problem.

I would recommend that you identify the power feed wire that start all this and try to trace its physical path.
