That probably explains why I had relatively little trouble removing the knob in my 307. Heat is not usually in short supply in this country. England, on the other hand …

Well, my new knob works OK, but is not as tactile as my old one 😜

Leverage! Two feet of old 3x2 timber, drill hole 2 inches from the end, then slot out to the end by making two saw cuts. Size this to slide over the gear lever so that it can bear on the knob. Now a pile of bricks or whatever on the floor so you can lever the knob up, making sure you achieve a 5:1 mechanical advantage. Spead the load on the floor if you can see daylight coming up through it!

Aw dammit I missed out on a good punfest... Was gonna say, the cold weather does tend to make ones knob shrink so no surprise it took some heat to win the day.
