REPLACED the sensor.

leaks are not apparent.

Now a new phenomenon occurs - when IDLE the AC functions well, when speeding the AC blows basically only slightly/none cooled air - which leads me to think that there is too much refrigerant in the system (I believe it co-insides with the manufacturers technical note on subject that I have retrieved) - so, do you know the exact weight or capacity of the refrigerant that the system takes ?

thx

I don't sorry. The type of refrigerant is usually marked under the hood, and the capacity is dependent on the type of gas and model year, as both types of gas were used on the same models, so depends individually.

I forgot to mention its the "old" type R134A

450 grammes of refrigerant - can't help with the oil though.

Excess refrigerant tends to bump up the high side pressures. The compressor will not engage if the pressure is too high. Too much refrigerant, BUT pressure not high enough to trip the system just means the system is not as efficient...still blows cold air but again system is not as efficient. I.E. the air is not as cold as it could be.
Is the compressor clutch engaging or not?
You need to put a set of service gauges on the system to see what's going on. Otherwise you are just guessing.

No leak, refrigerant amount is sufficient, clutch is engaged, replaced ambient sensor.

When idling or stopped at (e.g.) a traffic light ac is blowing "freezing" cold air, when driving for some time at high speed cooling level is decreasing , cooling level on driver/passenger side isn't leveled (colder on passenger side), when stopping the air gets "freezing cold again".
Ambient temperature according to the scanner is stable, around 5 degrees Celsius (i.e. at any speed as well as when stopped).
Refrigerant pressure read goes down to 6.8bar when driving and gets up to 9 bar when idling/stopped .

Frustrating.

What does the pressure do if you slowly increase the RPM to about 3000?

Can you give some numbers? Does it drop at 1000 RPM?, 1100RPM? What is the maximum pressure? Are you sure that the compressor clutch is still engaged after the pressure drops?

Pressure drops if going over 1,800-2,000 rpm for a while, getting as low as 6.8 bar.
I think the clutch remains engaged.

Ambient temperature of 5°C seems low, is it winter where you are ? I think on our cars when the ambient temperature gets low it cuts the air con to avoid it freezing up.
