Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Good evening ladies and gentle men. UPDATE.
Okay so blanked off egr to see what happens. refitted.
Cleared usual faults. Fired up..Not alot of difference, except screaming turbo!!
Oh dear that's new. So I stand there looking at satan's spawn and for no reason at all I pulled the vacuum pipe off the bottom of the turbo. That shut the screaming off. Got in car revved it up 3to 4 thou. Sod it, turn off and read faults... p0113 p0104 p0405 and the usual p1351.
Take EGR off, take top off, check every thing working ok nice and free, refit egr with out blanking Clear faults. Check actuator it said egr was okay.
Fired up with vacuum pipe back on, let tick over, turn off, check faults...just p1351. Okay start again try to rev usual 11.5k. No more.
Turn off turn on read faults....p1351 p0490 p1459 usual old egr faults. Okay then off with vacuum pipe start up easy. Quick rev goes like a good un up to nearly 4k with just a little cough mid way. Turn off turn on read faults ... same 3 as before. Cleared faults start up give it a rev Fault just p1351
Clear that. put vacuum pipe back while engine running air intake noise changes like sort of noisy hollow gulping ( not a very good description) .
Also sounded a bit like ticking from the throttle body gave it rev usual 11.5k. Turn off, read faults, just 1351. So in short, it goes a hell of alot better with
vacuum pipe off and only glow plug fault. So I think maybe it is not the egr at fault. It is something not talking to it or lying to it. Now one of you guys out there
is going to say "well of course it's the doo dah thing what's faulty " Please please, could you tell me where the doo dah valve is and I will replace it!! Thankyou for reading this epic They will make a film of it one day and call it the Revenge of Agincourt coz one of my ancestors was a Bowman. Regards Peter.

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Update episode 2....
Had another crack at it this morning. Plug in PLANET and switch on ignition. Check faults...Same old Egr faults. Cleared faults and fired it up with vacuum pipe off
Gentle revs easily up to 2.5 k three times and check faults ... just p1351 as usual. Okay start again rev up easy to 2 and half thou. a couple of times and check faults ..just 1351 . Being able to rev it at all is a ray of gold for me! It definitely runs alot better without the actuator pipe on, AND NO EGR FAULTS .I checked the pipe and on tickover I get suction and I have pulled rod up put finger on pipe and it holds 'till I let go. So I thought that all was well 'till I noticed black old oil on top of the actuator.
So on closer inspection I couldn't see where oil was coming from but the turbo oil feed pipe is tight on the banjo but loose on the join but not letting any real
amount of oil out. Oh well off with the actuator . tipped it up to find numbers on the bottom and loads of black old oil piddled out of the vent holes!!
That was a surprise. Now I came to the conclusion that it doesn't matter where the oil came from, it is where it went, and if the bowl was full of oil (and I mean full) when the rod was trying to move it would have a damping effect on any movement and hinder operation of turbo as in trying to rev. So I have ordered yet another part and will see if this is the doo dah wot is bust LOL
Update when it fitted. Regards.

Episode 3
Fitted new turbo actuator and as expected, no difference. Read faults ....1 Glow plug. Disconnected vacuum pipe, as usual it revs up quite well with a cough between 3 and 4k revs. Read faults....1 Glow plug. So now I am going to try last resort....new turbo solenoid. Then I haven't got a clue

NEVER does the EML come on after start up ( only with ignition on).

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Episode 4
Overalls on and back under 'Satans spawn' . Great difficulty but swapped turbo solenoid over to a genuine guaranteed used part. Fire up. Guess what?
No difference with vacuum pipe on actuator and 1200-1300 revs max . Read faults and same old p1351 (glow plugs) . Turn off and remove pipe, fire up and revs very well with a bit of a fart between 3.5k and 4k. Few blips on the pedal and turn off and read faults with still only plugs showing. When it's cold and first started you can rev to over 3.5 to 4000. BUT as soon as you let it idle it has a little cough and then the revs drop so you get 2.5k for few seconds then 2k for a few seconds then 1.2to 1.3K max (with pipe on ) Pipe off will rev up with fart as high as you want ( not real smooth but not real bad) So that's where we are now.... Bewildered

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
solenoid test
turbo from 15:40 for wastegate/turbo/solenoid/vacuum (but good demo on EGR replacement up to that point)
I think the second link will be the one that will give us the answers to move forward a bit on this Peter.
The wastegate would be closed (i.e held closed by vacuum) under a light load, so that the exhaust gases from the engine do actually spin the turbo and inturn the inlet air side is increased. That 'boost' works to give you the extra ooomph. As a safety piece, the wastegate is supposed to open and let pressure out of the turbo (exhaust side) to stop the turbo spinning too fast and damaging itself - it does open as needed by the mechanics of its design and the computers telling it to. - That snippet may or may not help your diagnosis but it can inform what you are seeing

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Thanks for that mate. I had seen this vid and the actuator is working spot on (brand new) It holds when you finger it. There is also a good pull on the end of the pipe from the solenoid.... ( Which, incidentally, still keeps buzzing and sucking for a couple of minutes after you turn motor off, why? I don't know ).... It also opens when it runs....which is the problem!!!. When you rev it the valve opens and bogs the revs down to 12-1300. When you take pipe off it revs like a good'un. No faults show up on PLANET only glow plugs. I am trying to work out what sensor is lying. When it is cold you start up and rev quick and it goes just nice....for a minute or two then it appears that as it gets a little warmer it loses power down to 12 1300 revs. Take pipe off and it revs. So no wiser yet. I am sure there is enough clues here to find the culprit but Sherlock Holmes wont answer his mobile! LOL.

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
I just had a thought. ( third one this year!!) What if, maybe, just maybe, the cat was a bit blocked ? I have had the DPF off and cleaned that. It wasn't too bad in all honesty. I was thinking IF everything was working properly, and if it will rev with the vacuum pipe off and the turbo, I believe at full pressure, forcing gas out and allowing it to breath and rev. With the pipe on and the waste gate open then it can't force gas out.....maybe. However, Planet diag. does not throw up any faults other than glow plugs. Hmmm. Ah well, probably a load of old bullocks .

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Its good that we are still thinking and having ideas, shows we are not quite brain dead yet
I suspect your Cat isnt blocked as the wastegate goes that way unless my brain is getting fuddled (although Diagbox does have a bunch of exhaust line readings to look at - thats how i normally tell people if the DPF is fine or not - simple mBar pressure difference from input to output - aka large pressure difference under load suggests a blockage) . I imagine its now some sensor telling the turbo that the pressure is too high in there and dumping gasses through the wastegate as a precaution. Sometimes diagbox doesnt get a code as the system is doing exactly what it should do......if those sensor readings were actually real.... For example, lets say the turbo pressure sensor (which i think on yours is on the outlet of the intercooler (left of the 2 pipes on the intercooler) is a bit clogged and reading a much higher pressure than is actually happening, maybe the engine panics into thinking the turbo is close to being damaged and commands a wastegate dump saviour? I am really just thinking out loud here and happy to be corrected.

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Thanks for that jaf. The turbo pressure sensor, aka MAP is new. The temperature sensor is the only one I haven't replaced yet. I did clean it but I think I will replace it anyway, as it is after a few moments when you can't rev it and the only difference might be the slight temperature change in the throttle valve. Maybe, but then I am getting to the stage of clutching straws.

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Another thought - any leaking hose under pressure could possibly cause this, if its meant to be vacuum it wouldnt hold a vacuum, if its meant to keep high pressure gas in the loop like the intercooler path, gases could escape reducing the expected pressure.

Re: 1.6 hdi no power slow revs
Right I am going to take off all the air pipes off from turbo to and from cooler. Check for leaks as that would make sense. The thing is the lady I bought it off said " It was running as normal, then I changed down for a corner, went to accelerate and no power and EML came on" so if she is not telling porkies, then something just died or could have split to make it die so sudden. I did have an intake pipe come off a VW like that with instant lack of power but it made quite a loud blowing noise, which this Pug doesn't do. But it will cost nowt to try so on with the rubber gloves...... Peter.

another interesting way of proving your vacuum line is holding a vacuum
