Just an update to keep things tidy.
The part arrived within 3 working days so yes EuroCarcare well recommended, just needed the time to fit it which is now :)

Can i ask for the procedure to remove the panels to get to the Brake Pedal Switch please.
I thought it i had it saved but looks like i changed laptop since i last ventured into that area on the C5 X7 and you tube shows the LHD version so begging yet again :-D

I think it should be screw caps that come off with a twist ani clock a quarter turn.

if not, it may be those mushrooms with a centre pin that need a poke in a couple of mm...

failing that, could be just mushroom fir tree fasteners that break your nails, spirit and swear jar...
Has anyone seen the plot? :?

I've had mine replaced 5 years ago - one of the relatively cheap fixes.

So as it's on the left hand side on a RHD, you should be able to get to it easily enough, but for details on removing the underside trim, have a look at my pollen filter removal guide which details the trim in question I think:

Be aware that there is a technical bulletin regarding stop lamp malfunction / ABS / ESP warning lamps on braking, which I just remembered from years ago that may be relevant Colin:

Origin of Fault: Brake Light Switch

Action:
  • Install an intermediate electrical harness.
  • Replacement of the brake lamp switch.
Parts Required:
  • 1 Switch kit (See part no. in replacement parts system).
  • 1 Plastic clip (Packaging of 50 - Part number 6980 A1).
  • 1 Foam (Packaging of 20 - Part number 9365 72).

Repair:
Col Brake 1.PNG
Disconnect: The electrical harness (1).
Replace: The brake lamp connector (2).
Col Brake 2.PNG
Position: The intermediate electrical harness (1):
  • Connect the intermediate electrical harness (1) to the stop lamp switch (2)
  • Connect the other end of the intermediate electrical harness (4) to the electrical harness (1)
  • Wrap the connector (3) linking the intermediate electrical harness (4) to the electrical harness (1) with the foam (5)
  • Attach the 2 electrical harnesses (1), (4) together ; Using a plastic clip (6) (Moderately tighten)
  • Cut the excess length from the plastic collar (6)
Check that there is no interference between the electrical harnesses and the pedal gear.
