Assuming you get hold of a set of replacement cables and get everything back together it could be a good idea to put a thin layer of grease on the cables. This would help protect them from rust in the future. Then check the drain holes at the bottom of the door have not become blocked. They can, over time, and then the humidity in the door can cause the winder cables to get rusty.

That looks the right part. They can also be found on eBay and (probably) Amazon. They're a very common failure on these C5s.bubbleberry wrote: 12 Feb 2023, 20:19

Re: Citroen C5 09 estate windows only go halfway down
My soon to be brother in law swapped out the window mechanism as advised and it worked perfectly for a few weeks, then a few days ago there were signs it was beginning to stick again. Today it refused to go up - it would raise half an inch or so and then it would automatically wind back down. This was the original problem, although today I was able to force it up by hand. I wondered if it might be a motor problem or some type of sensor ? What do you guys think ?

Sounds like the 'anti finger trap' sensor is being activated. Any kind of friction/resistance felt will cause the window to open fully for safety. I had a similar issue and it was caused by dirt build up between the glass and exterior rubber seal.

Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Thank you Ryan. Was it easy enough to fix? Did you need to take off the door card ? Many thanks

Re: Citroen C5 09 estate windows only go halfway down
Try squirting some silicon oil spray down the window channels (not WD40) and raise and lower the windows gradually to work it in. That should take some strain off the motor. Then if that works, try resetting the anti-pinch by completely lowering the window, then use the first position of the window switch to manually raise it up bit by bit. Don't use the one touch up position! When you eventually get to the top, hold the button up until you hear a slight click. That means it's reinitialised.

Be liberal with the spray - as if the channels are dry it will soon be absorbed into the material.
