Citroen C5 09 estate windows only go halfway down

Relatively new to owning a Citroen c5 but have realised that the rear windows only seem to go halfway down, wondering if this is a security setting or why this is and can it be disabled?

No, it's by design - child safety and can't be deactivated.

Thanks for the info, just realised aswell the child safety electric lock in my car doesn’t disengage the rear window switches?

The child safety button on the driver’s electric window door control pad, when activated, should prevent the rear electric window switches n the rear doors from operating the windows.

It should light when active, if not, you need to check the wiring block inside the module has not come loose.

They should go down "fully", by that meaning 8-10cm still sticks up...

The light on this flashes briefly and can hear the doors lock but doesn’t seem to lock the rear window controls as expected? All connectors seem to be in place

This is the button and it has 2 functions:

This deactivates the controls in the rear of the vehicle, both for the rear windows and for opening the rear doors from the inside. The electric child safety device is activated by pressing on button J .

The activation of the function is indicated by a message on the instrument panel screen and the light on button J.

So as said, if the light and or message is not coming on and the functionality is not working, then I suggest you carefully lever up the control unit with some trim removal tools, and check that the plugs are securely locked in place.

This won't be the first time I've seen these plugs come loose or fall out as a result of the doors being slammed.

I have already done this and all seems to be intact which is why I’m stumped tbh

Ok, so if you have confirmed that the switch plugs are intact within the underside of the module, then the next thing I can suggest is the wiring loom in the driver door aperture. There is a plastic guard that protects the wires as the door is opened and closed, but over time the wires inside can become flexed and stressed, causing breaks. If the control wire (s) to the rear doors are broken, this may be why it is not working.

The lug can be undone so that you can inspect the wires.

Can seem to see any breaks in wires etc so I’m unsure as to why

Well the light on the rear window / door opening button on the driver's control panel is not supposed to go out when activated. If it comes on and goes off, there is a fault. That will be why it is non-functional.

Further, when the system is active the lighting of the rear door opening lever is not lit (more easily seen at night of course). When the system is deactivated the door opening area is lit. So that's another way you can see if the system is active.

So there looks to be a fault in the system.

Folks, my 2009 C5 Estate - the drivers window would not go up, the motor was trying its best and at time it went up a bit and then immediately down. Eventually it stayed down. I did all the resets and battery disconnects found on the forum but nothing worked. Had to collect my children from their new school that was quite a distance and it was pouring rain so local mechanic snipped the cables and jammed it up. Any ideas on what could be causing it - he wants to for a new mechanism but that would not have caused it to force down and stay down would it ?

Yep, the cables on these are known to break and can cause the window to stay in one place or drop down - it's a very common issue. It's sometimes possible to run the motor a little and then force the window up by hand a little, then a bit more on the motor, then a bit more by hand etc, and once you've got it to the top - Gaffer tape the window in position until it can be fixed. Not too bad a job to fit new winder cables and winder frame, and the old motor can be reused.

Thanks Bobins. It was really tight, tried everything to get t up but it went straight down again as if the mgr was working against me in the opposite direction, as you say, when pressing the button it went with me.
