Just to let you know, got the gearbox on and have run it a few miles and is better than original box. I think I got used to the whine in first gear, so maybe a blessing in disguise that I changed it.
Took five attempts to get the thing on, don't realy know why. Did it old school in the end with masking tape around a shaft and fine tuning by fingers through the slots on the pressure plate. To be positive, I can, lying on my back, now hoist the gearbox from my chest into position faster than anytime in the last ten years.

I still have a box spanner wound with masking tape to locate the clutch in what was most likely an Hillman Imp in about 1980.
