Have you checked all the fuses on the underbonnet fuse box - there is a 20A one in there for the starter circuit. Check all the plugs on here for corrosion. If you listen to the under bonnet fuse box when someone else turns the key to crank, can you hear a relay clicking? If you go into diagbox, can you see if the gearbox ECU thinks it's in neutral or not? Is it actually in neutral (i.e. can you push the car?)

Fuses all checked with a multimeter and cleaned including the maxi fuses behind the ecu. Also the silly metal bars that come off the battery +ve terminal.
Diagbox isn't communicating with the gearbox ecu. See pics earlier in the thread.
It now has a new battery ( turns out old one is fine as I used it to jump start my diesel MGZT today) and I've done a couple of resets.
My plan now is to just leave it for a few days and let it all hibernate then go from there.
It's so frustrating. The car is well maintained, very well looked after and hadn't done 35k miles from new.

Ok. I've been back on this today. I've ignored it hoping it would get run into or spontaneously combust but no such luck.
I've cleaned all battery connections and tested for continuity and cleaned all fuses under bonnet. I've lost count of the number of battery resets I've done.
Each time it's still coming up with engine fault repair needed, a park brake fault and it says it's stuck in m-. All the symptoms I had last year.
See earlier in this thread the picture that shows diagbox cant communicate with the gearbox, the power steering and the abs systems.
Everything I've done this time sorted the problem last year. Not this time.
I'm now stuck. Where do I go from here? I'm loathed to put it into the dealer because they'll just bleed me dry but I'm beginning to think I have little choice.
I'm even considering selling it for spares or repairs or even breaking it myself! I've had it 5 and a half years and it's in such good condition with only 33k on the clock but I'm getting fed up with it now.
Any pointers please? Thanks chaps.

Just some random thoughts:

Did your Diagbox read the ECUs before the problem arose?
Is your Diagbox hardware "full chip" and "Rev C"?
Is there anyone nearby with another Diagbox that could try to read your car?

Nobody nearby. Thats why I got my own. Yes it has worked on the car before. If you look back in the links in the thread you'll see i had a similar problem last year.
I've tried everything this time to sort the problem to no avail. The honest truth is id rather break it than put it into a dealer and have them throw parts at it which it probably doesn't need!

These things are a nightmare as you're finding out.

You need to rule out the economy mode first, as this may be causing the network error and preventing comms with the gearbox ECU - and we really need to have this working so you can pick up any specific fault codes.

I suggest you connect Diagbox up and start the vehicle, then let it do the Global test with the engine running. If it asks you to turn the ignition off and then on again, do that, but actually start the car and leave it running for now. Now see if you can get communication with the gearbox ECU and any codes, then post them up.

Thanks for your advice Marc but it won't start! Like last year it brings up an engine fault and says it's stuck in m- despite the fact it's in N.
As a result it thinks it's in gear and won't turn over.
I can switch economy mode off (it's the only way it'll let me lower the window to do the battery reset)
I've done everything this time that resulted in the problems disappearing last year. I'm wondering if it was a coincidence last time and there's some intermittent issue that now won't fix itself.
I'm not knowledgeable enough on modern stuff (I understand how it all works but as a child of the 70s I was brought up on csrbs, dizzies, points and tappets!!!)

As far as lowering the window goes - it's just for safety reasons - in case you need to get to the handbrake or something else during the procedure and is not part of the process, so don't worry too much about that. But the gearbox or the controls seem to have thrown one - and without a fault code I can't get to the specifics. You may have to call your breakdown and get the damned thing towed (off ground) to the dealer to sort for you.

Hey guys!

I see that the last post is one year ago. Did you manage to solve the problem?
I`m having the same issues with my wife`s 3008 Hybrid. I had 2 ruptured belt, and now it doesnt start at all. Just the red sign, with engine repair needed.
Nobody knows what to do with the car, so I`ve got angry, and took it apart. On the negative pole there is a small electronic device, called Battery charge status Unit. It was broke in half. Hope that is the origin of the problems. I`m waiting for Monday, to search for a new one.

I will be back with results.

The part that is broken, is probably this one:
