Brilliant! thank you for solving that mystery. I'll hook the car up later and take screen shots of each stage for reference. Was really confusing me(which doesnt take much) because on my old car the dpf had its own folder and came up with the error regarding the low additive on the global assessment making it much easier to identify.

Hi Gino, that will be because on some of the older systems, they incorporated a separate additive ECU - so that would appear separately under a global diagnostic as it was an ECU in its own right. These additive ECUs were also notorious for failing when trying to be reset after a top-up and often necessitated in being replaced themselves.

Later vehicles, like your X7 have done away with the need for a separate ECU and the whole job is now managed by the Engine ECU itself - which is why the resetting operation is now done from within the engine ECU screen. I hope that clarifies it for you and I'm glad you have successfully completed the operation.

Thanks for the explanation Marc. Pleased to say I was successful in clearing the "service" light and low additive warning. This part was surprisingly easy (now I know where to look) Only slight issue is I could not find on any menu anything about priming. I looked under the engine banner of all 4 menus of maintenance, fault finding, repairs and preparing car for delivery to new owner all without success.
