hi again,I have taken the car to several mechanics and the results from one of their scanning tool was that the fuel pressure was about 20% of what it should have been pre ignition and about 90% when the engine was running.According to one of them it does not take long at all for the cams inside the injector pump to get damaged when exposed to contaminated fuel.moral of the story i guess is double check before you do the deed at the fuel pump.Pity that repairs cost are prohibitive and car will have to be scrapped,particularly when it had been such a good car,I have done about 160k since i got it and other than some electrical gremlins with headlights bulbs ,and the occasional message on the screen,no dramas at all.
Anyhow thanks anyone who spent time thinking about my predicament and hopefully by continuing to share information and misadventures will make life a little easier on ourselves.
Off i go now looking for my next car...wish me luck
