Still totally LOST....even more so now.....
and yes, it is worth it. If I can put one on the shelf for £30 then why not when they are £££ new. (If you can find one)

Re: Source, Valeo alternator parts
Really, I didn't think anyone recon'd alternators any more (at least not in this country) - but I take it V6 ones are a bit special/hard to find.

Correct, in "good" condition they not easy to find these days....as I have one in for professional refurbishment I thought I would attack this one myself.

Re: Source, Valeo alternator parts
Well, I got a call back today regarding the Alternator I dropped in for fixing, it needed a new regulator/brush box @ £46.66....bargain.
I have the other one to fix now DIY with the parts ordered...I think I will strip it down totally and give it a nice paint job

Re: Source, Valeo alternator parts
This was the last alternator I refurbished. It was fitted to a JCB that appears to have spent at least 10 years of its life working up to its rams in mud. The aternator is still going strong 5 years later

Re: Source, Valeo alternator parts
Used to have Lucas alternators reconn'd (& upgraded) by the Saturday boy in my local parts emporium in Northampton: he'd do them between customers - or while you waited, if you were a member of the inner circle of regulars. Decades passed without even thinking about alternators (except the quadrant lug used to beak off the Serbian ones fitted to 2CV's - but that just required drilling a hole in the remaining stub) 'til the 1st STS started displaying intermittent symptoms, it was a contributory factor in it being scrapped: a "cheap" pattern/recon was about £400 - & the same again to fit it!
