Pipe twists in/out, thats good to know - thanks Gibbo.
My local Peugeot parts dept couldn't find any reference to seals etc - as you suggested Marc.
Keeping my fingers crossed that there is enough room just to slip it out/in again.
Thanks All - Alex.

Best of luck Alex. It will be interesting to see if it was indeed part of the dipstick. If it is one of those stupidly designed plastic ones, I don't understand why they didn't just leave the original metal ones - except to save money of course no doubt!

Wasn't there some problem with the metal ones tangling with the crankshaft/big-ends and causing damage..........or did I dream that?

I know the C5 hdi ones went down a double bend and although located at the front actually dipped at the back.

Couldn't say Gibbo, but the 1.6 X7 engines had the same issue as the other models with that engine. I'm not sure how the dipstick could get anywhere near there though with a guide tube in place? But then nothing surprises me anymore.

My C5X7 dipstick broke a few months ago. The broken piece was long enough to remain standing in the tube without dropping into the bottom of the sump. Marc was kind enough to tell me that Citroen no longer worried about pieces being in the sump, however, with the tube being blocked, I couldn't get the new dipstick in. I used a length of 3mm galvanized wire on to which I put a number of saw cuts - just sufficiently deep enough to raise a burr. Then I pushed the wire into the tube, forcing it past the broken dipstick end. After much struggling, I pulled the wire back out - bringing the broken piece of plastic with it.

There is no O ring according to Marc, Gibbo and Peugeot (parts Bristol). I fitted a new guide tube WITHOUT O ring and it seems fine.
