It is also possible that, with the new MoT regulations coming in, a faulty airbag system could be classified as 'Dangerous', and that means the vehicle cannot be driven away from the test centre!
Once you disable an airbag, it is shown as not present in any OBD testor. Hence it will not give any error or alarm, so there is no way MOT will see unless they plug in a lexia and check one by one each airbag present.
The airbag light is supposed to light up and then go off when the ignition is on and they test for warning lamps. If it is not operational that will likely not happen.
But that’s not the point. It’ll very likely invalidate insurance in an accident if a fitted safety device has purposefully been deactivated under subsequent investigation.
It’s better to try and fix the problem and not leave the problem for the next unsuspecting owner of the vehicle....

I get your point. Definitely if it can be fixed, it should be.
And you are right, things are different in Portugal!

On the C8 that fault code is normally caused by a faulty splice under the carpet near the sill, if I remember right you need to take the seat out to get to it, you cut the old one out & resolder & heatshrink.
That would make sense, especially with it happening during cornering. Can you clarify the location? Which sill is it, and which chair do I have to remove?

It must have been at least 10 years since I have done one of these repairs but they used to be fairly common, as for which side, it's the same at both sides so it would be whichever side is causing the fault. I always done both sides when doing the repair as it was inevitable that the other side would play up a short time later.
As for exact location like I say it has been over 10 years since I done this repair. I just remember you have to take the seat out to lift the carpet up for access, I believe it's part of the loom that runs down the sill which then goes across the floor to the airbag ECU.
If I could see the wiring diagram it would probably jog my memory as to which splice it is.
Hi, waking up this old post but it's all i can find that best matches my issue, someone above said it was common on these, & the issue is a dodgy splice in the wire under the carpet, under the seats? I have the same issue that just came on yesterday.
Took out drivers seat today, but there are no wires going under the carpet to any ecu between the seats? So, i dunno what they are referring to? Just have the main loom along the sill, then branched off that is a short loom up to the electric seat. ?
I have "RH side & RH SIde curtain airbag in series open circuit" CODE: P1C91 please help!
This is a well known fault on early C8's & there was a TSB on it. Can affect both sides & the splices that cause the problems are splices EM65A, EM65B, E655A and E655C.
Cut the old splices out & solder & heat shrink the wiring. I would advise doing both sides at the same time or you will have it all back out again to do the other side.
Thanks for reply and diagrams, much appreciated. So, I've just removed drivers seat, done the 1st splice on loom going to drivers seat, pulled up middle carpet to access the ECU cover (stuck down!? I was going to check ECU pins and connector for any corrosion but it's stuck too well and I haven't any sealant to replace it) I've also done the 2 splices just before the ECU connector. (Yellow and Orange wire joins) But, still got the fault, tried erasing it but no joy. I haven't removed the seat to do the passenger (LEFT) side splice as the fault says RH.
So, yeah, that's where I'm currently at.
Any other ideas?
Also, now, since ive been doing this work, for some reason, I'm also getting a temporary fault for the passenger airbag deactivation LED, which clears/erases, but, it's been back twice now. The battery has been disconnected when doing the splices. Any ideas as to that and what to try next? Thanks.
Well thanks anyway but I've sorted it now.
Just to help anyone else with this issue in future - It was a broken yellow wire in the seat, (3 wires to the seat side airbag - orange, yellow, black) where it bends up from the seat base into the seat back. It wasn't obviously broken visually, it was broken inside the flex, Only a continuity test with a ohm meter revealed it, by probing through the flex, at different points starting from both ends (plugs) and when no continuity noted, then working along the wire gradually from 1 end to the other every few inches until there was continuity. So all fixed now.
