The last time I took all the trim off my tailgate I used a smallish hole saw on the top bit and drilled a couple holes where the spoiler locating screws are hidden. The holes are covered with rubber blanking grommets and are hardly noticeable.
Next time I have to whip the spoiler off it'll take two minutes and I'll break no clips in the process.
(The worst bit as I recall it was getting the four 'orrible sodding screws back in at the bottom edge)

Now there's an idea! Any chance of a photo of just where the holes/grommets are on your motor?! That might save me using a hammer and chisel to remove the trim!

That is a really sound ides, I thought about it for mine and would happily have done it if I was keeping it long term. You don't see the blanking grommets when the tailgate is closed.

I don't exactly remember how I took the trim off, there are 4 screws at the bottom but the trims each side of the screen have to come off first - coming back to me now: if you look at the trim above the screen, there is a join in the middle. I think I started there - one half will pull towards you then you work around and down the sides carefully levering prodding and pulling ..... some tabs if I recall - then the other half, then you can get to the main lower trim panel.

If I ever get the damn thing back from the dealers then I'll take a photo and perhaps some measurements with pleasure.
They've had it since Saturday though so I wouldn't hold your breath.

Well in the end they had it for thirteen days and it came out with exactly the same problem it went in with.
I've now left it with a well recommended local diesel specialist who's unfortunately unable to fit it in for over a week.
I reckon it'll be a nice Christmas present to myself by the time I see it again.

I will take photos and measurements eventually.
