You bring up a very interesting point. The books are updated yearly. Is there a way to get hold of a PDF copy of the latest version for Citroens'.

I know many other car manufacturers allow you to download the updated literature that usually accompanies a car in the 'New Owner Pack'?

Not had occasion to seek an updated handbook tbh but you got me checking out the oil I didn't recognise - INEO FIRST....

It's a new oil so perhaps this has superseded the recommendation to that ECS is best for these engines?

My 2/- worth. When my car was made, a 307 1.4 HDi Peugeot recommended 10w40 semi synthetic oil (I use Castrol at ........€23.00 a gallon) They now tell me I need fully synthetic 5w-30 at €45.00 a gallon. I change the oil every 5-6 k miles as I did in any of the cars cars I ever owned. I cannot see why the oil Peugeot recommended 12 years ago now cannot be used. I know cars with a DPF need a different oil but I'm not convinced I have to buy it for my car, or maybe I should use it?

Hi doctie
If your car has done 235000km on 10w/40 semi synthetic, I see no valid reason to upgrade to fully synthetic thinner oil. I spent 6 years selling oil to end users both vehicle and industrial, and the ammount of b*ll*cks around engine oil is unbelievable. Use what the handbook says from a reputable manufacturer and you won 't go far wrong.

Hi Hirsty
I totally agree. I have been in a few "garages" over the years and plenty of them still have a 45 gallon drum of 10w40 that goes into almost everything. Regular oil changes are very important and is an easy home DIY job for most people. I hear a lot of b*ll*cks about many things too, I got the car scanned 2 weeks ago, guy said his boss paid 7 grand for the snap on scanner and as he did the scan the car was ticking over rocking and spluttering. His 7 grand machine said there was no fault in the car. Luckily for me I didn't have to give him any beer tokens!

The OP doesn't say, but if this is a 110 version with DPf then it MUST use a low ash/ SAPS C2 spec oil.

Have V5 document handy - how can I tell if it has the DPF or not?

Unsure if 92 bhp or 110 version.

Check the VIN - about characters 6,7,8 it should say 9HX or 9HY - X is 90 Y 110 (I think). Post up the last 8 digits of the VIN, and we can check.

It begins VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] and is a 17 alphanumeric sequence in length.

No good to me I need the complete 17 digit number or the last 8 digits. It's on public view in the bottom corner of the outside passenger windscreen if you are having difficulty finding it.

Or send it via Private Message if you don't want to display it here.

Guys - nothing personal - my spidey sense is telling me that posting full vin to a public forum - doesn't feel right (for some reason).

I might just be mad.

If RichardW is right - then this is a diesel 92bhp with no DPF/FAP (if those two things mean the same thing that is).

We need the ID to enter into the database to bring up your specs. Send it via Private Message if you don't want to display it here - although it is already on public view on your car.

Ok, so you have a XSARA PICASSO FAMILY SALOON 1.6 HDi 92 (DV6ATED4) Manual gearbox 5, without Diesel Particulate filter. So the 9HX Engine.
So looking at the Wiki I linked to, you should be fine with all these listed.

For example the use of grade 10W40 is limited to the temperate countries (from - 17 °C to + 37 °C) or to a hot climate. You can refer to the chart for other climates.
