Fifth gear identification?

All 1.9TD gearboxes I expect will have the same 5th gear ratio Romie... Final drives may be different perhaps but possibly not even then...

For you, a swap to a Xantia 90 HDi will be a good move as the 90 HDi box is a straight swap but the final drive is just a little taller...

I've done this swap to the owner’s complete satisfaction. A 90 HDi 'box may not be hard to source either...

Yes, at 313K the 'box is entitled to feel just a little weary now I reckon...

Interesting... Personally I can't fault 16.04...

I may now, having read that, upgrade one of mine and see how it looks...
