My brother is pretty good with a welder, he's got a decent TIG set-up so we may have to go down that route. I also got some dealer on ebay to do a dealer search and one came up in a place in Wales. They need to check their warehouse to see if they've still got it, if they have it'll be £65 and won't get here until Tuesday at the earliest.
I've also sent pics to the scrapper who sent me the wrong part, he's going to have a look for me. The part he sent looks the same as the bottom diagram you posted up, the bar is the same diameter so I've also asked him to measure it, if it's the same length I might be able to make it work.

See if you can find someone on ebay selling engine and box or box and get them to sell the part ? If local you could pick it up maybe.. £65 is a bit steep

£65 is a bit steep. Mind you, the part is listed at £606!
I don't even know if they've got the part yet. I'll keep an eye out for anyone scrapping an engine and box but the chances of them being the same are very slim.

I wonder if the complete rod etc pictured in my post would fit your gearbox? Failing that maybe get another gearbox

The same clutch is listed for both types. Do the fingers on the release arm look the same (not withstanding that one is broken!!)? Does the one you've been sent fit snugly on the shaft? EG could you cut off the old fork, slip the 'new' one over the shaft and then weld it on, or even drill the shaft and put the pin through (which is how it works on the other gearbox)? Not sure how you would get the alignment right....

Re: Synergie clutch fork, part number confusion? (also crankshaft oil seal question)
I like the ideas, another one I had was to see if the shaft and fork that was in Ken's pics would match up.
I was on the phone to a Peugeot specialist in Yorkshire and he had the other one that looks similar to mine. The measurements are way off but you could cut the fork off both and weld the good one back onto my original shaft.
I've got a decent pillar drill, so welding this other fork on or drilling a hole for the pin could be an option. I'll see what the dealer in Wales comes up with tomorrow morning, if he's got the right part I'll just pay the £65 and get it. In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can TIG weld the old fork back together.
The fingers on the release arms all seem to be around 70mm apart, give or take a few mm. I don't know how accurate that measurement has to be?

Ian - in response to your PM, I'm posting the diagrams here as there are 3 listed under your VIN - I'm not sure which one is yours, so hopefully you can identify the correct one. The Clutch buffer guide is item 4 on the first Diagram and 5 on the other 2. Now on the last 2, Item 6 is the shaft seal - but it doesn't seem to be in the same place on the first diagram!
Your Warranty Start date was 1/1/1990, but there's no RPO shown. In the first Diagram the gearbox is up until RPO 07391 - which is 2/2/1997 if that helps.

Looks like the top one to me. The other two have three screws holding them in whereas mine has two.
That's great, thanks very much Marc.

Wow, another part that's difficult to find. I've had to order one of those from Germany!
I like a challenge but this is getting ridiculous!

Well it is getting on for 26 years old Ian
I guess it's all down to whether the breakers bother keeping them after a certain time if they're not selling many parts. That's where they still have them! If the manufacturers only have to supply parts for 5 years or so after production, I think we're all going to have issues and tears sooner or later trying to maintain our pride and joys! Good luck with the search though!

Re: Synergie clutch fork, part number confusion? (also crankshaft oil seal question)
The guys in Wales came through, quite possibly the last remaining clutch arm, for my car, in the country will be on its way to me tomorrow.
Now I'm getting to thinking what went wrong with it in the first place. The thrust bearing looks a bit mangled and is missing a tag. The old clutch has plenty of meat left on it but I just don't trust it.
If anyone needs a clutch for an XUD, they're welcome to it, just needs a new thrust bearing.
Thanks to everyone for their help, I'll probably have more questions as the work progresses.
