Well, that's an odd one... It's as if the Body Computer (CPH) - or more specifically - the immobiliser transponder which is co-sited, does not like the cold and needs the heat to get it to a state where it can work. Some electronics can be very heat/cold sensitive in older age, usually due to dried out electrolytic capacitors and other components drifting out of tolerance...

The Ignition (engine) ECU is located in the engine bay box on the inner wing near the nearside headlight.

The Bitron unit will not be in any way responsible, its task in life being to control the operation of the cooling fans.

I can't think of any relay in the vicinity of the CPH either.

Can you hear a whirring noise from the fuel pump when you first turn on the ignition and does the Immobiliser Warning Light (an amber three-sided square with an arrow on the open side) extinguish shortly after the ignition is switched on? AFAIR, it's one of the warning lights on the bottom of the tacho...
