So that looks like you should be able to keep her on the road. Might I suggest that, when you find a good one, (or even a NOS one) treat it to a good coating of something like Hammerite paint, to protect it for the future.

looking at this the damage is along the length of the arms in section facing outwards. if this was too fail on this particular what would happen would i lose my steering ?

I had my subframe out on the drive, then refitted it later. In a garage on a lift it would be an easy job.

Just a case of unbolting the mounting bolts, the bottom arm bolts, only 2 bolts securing the steering rack, anti-roll bar bolts and unclipping the brake pipes, then down she comes. So long as your pipes are in good order, there shouldn't be a problem.
When we scrapped one a few months ago, we had the car on a lift and the use of air tools. 15 mins tops and the subframe was on the floor.
