I used my activa mk1 vin details on service citroen to confirm genuine part numbers and then xreffed to mintex. I've also ordered a set of disks and pads for myself at that price as its too good to miss. Looks like clearance stuff but at the right price ... for me anyways. My disks (P reg 1996) are 283mm.

Dave,

My Xantia is 283 mm discs if you require the calipers. They are still on the car.

If given a choice I would always use Ferodo rather than Mintex but I haven't had to buy any for a very long time so I'm not even sure they're still available.

I had a bad experience once on a big Austin Westminster using Mintex and have been a bit reluctant to use them ever since.

Not disagreeing Gibbo, however the compounds and specs of brake pad media have changed so much over the years. You cannot be sure what you are buying nowadays or where it is coming from. This means that all of these great names may be different from what they were, for better or worse. Some of the companies have changed hands too and are only there in name only. Even the steel on the discs and the combination disc and pad combined may have an effect. Minefield really and another reason for CIT OE if you are fussy. I have no bother with all sorts mind you but I don't drive on brakes much or at speed.

I'll leave you to do the rears at some point Davie but I'm sure with new and decent Mintexes you'll find the brakes a lot, lot better. The rears will make little difference as they are hardly used in normal service; by far the most braking effort is carried out by the fronts...

I have the discs and pads in the shed for the rears. That should be a nice simple job for me to do. (Famous last words)

Just had a Google for Ferodo out of curiosity, I didn't realise they are now part of the Federal Mogul Group, We have a Federal Mogul factory locally, makes camshafts and the like for many motor manufacturers.

It is Davie, on the face of it but do look at all the threads on here about the fragility of the caliphate bolts and have some new ones on hand as a kind of insurance policy. If you have the new ones you just know then the old ones will come out without issue!

Do take care though... Those bolts can snap at the drop of a hat and if they do then it can be a whole world of pain...

Thanks to all for the advice, and to xantiamanic for finding the links. I was looking for discs and pads as a set. I knew there were 3 different sizes. It's a bit confusing. The car should come back to me just needing an oil change, and the rear discs and pads done to be mechanically perfect. It will then need the small body issues done.

Are those the bolts holding the callipers on Jim? Do they go right through the calliper the same as the c5 ones? I had a hell of a job with my first c5 and ended up just changing the pads and leaving the discs.
